ESPN commentators were impressed with Paxton's runs. He did look strong.

Hard to believe Jarvis Cooper is a frosh. That kid is a bulldozer. He has all the tools to be a special talent.

Just got back from the game!! 02-13-banana

I'm wet and cold, but it was glorious. This is how an FBS team should scrore against an FCS team. We should be that better, so that the seconds can get playing time in the 4th. It was fun! And the guys looked like they were having fun, and sang real pretty 04-rock

Congrats to the tiger team. That was an impressive first win. Good execution and a good game plan. Yes, AP might not be that good, but the tigers whipped them like they should. I wanted to see the tiger defense dominate. Check. I wanted to see the game over by halftime. Check. 1-0 for the first time in 10 years. Check. Both the offense and defense exceeded my expectations for tonight.

First shutout of a tiger opponent in 14 years. 9/9/2000 Tigers 28 La Monroe 0

I believe that 63 points is the highest point total since 11/22/1969 when tigers won over louisville 69-19.

Now ucla has something to think about. I say we go to california and earn some national respect. We got nothing to lose. All the pressure is on ucla. Got a chance to beat a ranked team. Not sure how long it's been since that happened.

Why does it matter. Take your negative **** somewhere else.

How about you take your negative attitude somewhere else? I asked a simple question. Next time say nothing if you don't know the answer.

The team did what they were supposed to do. Let's hope they can put together a good game vs UCLA.

I'm not sure which tiger laid the smack down hit on that punt return in the 3rd period, but i do know it was nasty.

Totally agree. The fumble wasn't good though.

Tigers looked great. Anybody unhappy with tonight's performance is not a Tiger fan. Granted the competition may not have been stellar, but our concentration and focus was impressive. I saw Paxton looking off 2 and 3 receivers on reads to hit the open man multiple times. Once I noticed he forced a post, but for the most part he was highly impressive and used his secondary receivers well.

Our D line was impressive, especially up the middle. A few fumbles, but they can hopefully be chalked up to the weather conditions. This Tiger team could be dangerous, when you can mix the run and pass like we did, well, we shall see. Kudos to Fuente for the unity and teamwork. Opening kickoff every player on the sideline held their helmet in the air in solidaritity with the return team. Just a few details that show this team is becoming just that, a team.

Great time to be a Tiger. Tiger took care of business. I got home wet and hoarse but I just took a hot shower and Smiled.

Thanks you coaching staff for building a team .

Thank you young men for coming to our University and giving me good memories.

Thanks

I watched the replay. It looks like #32 DaShaughn Terry made the nasty hit on the 53 yard punt return. That hit got a lot of oohs and aahs in the area i was sitting.

The following is from postgame notes @ gotigersgo :
Memphis had 25 players make their career debuts in the season opener against Austin Peay – LB Genard Avery, WR Greg McKillion, DB Jamil Collins, QB Jason Stewart, WR Roderick Proctor, RB Tearris Wallace, RB Jarvis Cooper, LB Shareef White, DB Anthony Young, CB DaShaughn Terry, DB Phillip Sumpter, P Spencer Smith, LB Noah Robinson, DE Ernest Suttles, DL Christian Johnson OL Alexander Karr, OL Tyler Uselton, OL Zach Collins, OL Gabe Kughn, OL Patrick Winfield, OL Kevin McIntyre, WR Kyle Wilson, TE Robby Young, WR Phil Mayhue and DL Cortez Crosby.

Edit: Is the last time the tigers won over a ranked opponent in 1996? Please tell me that's not right.
