Dominated is an understatement.

I told a UTSA fan "there is no way in hell we are winning this game". His face lit up. Like he still expected us to come back.

No. We were completely annihilated.

Again. It's our offensive scheme. Back to 2012.

RE: Houston fans
Head coach and his butt buddy offensive coordinator need to be fired yesterday.

Whomever approved of the head coach's extension and raise after accomplishing virtually nothing in 2 years should also be fired.

Levine is soft. The team reflects it.

Beyond disgusted. Worse than the loss is we likely wont see 40,000 in that beautiful venue again until he's fired. 20,000 people showed up to cheer on UH that likely haven't been on campus in years. They wont be coming back. Not only did we lose, but we were flat out putrid. Boring. Boring. Boring.

You can't be boring in an urban market.

Yup. It wasn't that they lost so much as they were not even remotely competitive. They looked like a 2-A JV squad playing the state 6A varsity champ. The defense is probably decent if they don't have to play the entire game. That middle school offense looks like they just started practicing it 2 days before the game. Mental errors, lineman 15 yards down the field before the ball is thrown, snapping the ball on the wrong count, missing a perfectly snapped ball on a punt, dropped balls, overthrowing receivers by 10 feet, missed blocks, a offensive line that was completely overwhelmed by a THREE man rush MULTIPLE times. Even with a massive tailgate buzz, the average fan would have about as productive as many of the Coog offensive lineman. Most embarrassing performance in in my memory----and that's saying something. The second most was the Texas State game in 2012. Strange that in just short 24 month span Levine already has presided over the two most embarrassing defeats in Cougar history--both in front of packed houses. Im hoping our favorite over hyped special teams coach isn't around long enough to manufacture a third flop-tastic big moment.

Levine is in way over his head. This is what happens when you hire a Special Teams coach who knows very little about offense or defense, and has no coaching relationships, the man is clueless on every level. I've been going to UH Games for over 30 years and last Friday was the worst game I have ever watched in my life at any level.

RE: Houston fans
Each time UH looks like it is going places, Tony Levine seems to CRUSH the life out of the program:

2012: Coming off a 13-1 season, with EVERY OLineman back in the fold and playing in front of a packed Robertson Stadium we pooped the bed against 1st year FBS team Texas State. Lost a lot of fans that day. Many of whom did not show again until...

October 29th, 2014: New stadium, packed house, ESPN coverage, 9 returning starter on Offense, 8 returning starters on Defense. Coming off an 8-5 season where we lost our regular season games by a combined 12 points. And a 2012 OC promoted back to OC.
We poop the bed against a UTSA team with its First Senior Class.

Two of the most CRUSHING LOSSES I have seen in my 22 years of going games. If this coach doesnt hire an out of work OC to help correct this situation it could get ugly. I am sure Dr. Khator will see to that (not sure if Mack Rhoades will).

To me UTSA was actually much worse than the Texas State loss. In 2012 we were starting from scratch, having lost:

Most of the coaching staff;
the NCAA's all time passing leader;
our top 4 wrs;
2 of our top 3 rbs;
and our top 2 playmakers on defense.

Under the circumstances it would have been a surprise if we didn't struggle.

No such excuses apply this year as we brought back 17 starters from a team that went 8-5.

Good point. The UTSA loss was actually statistically worse as well. Just 7 points vs UTSA (scored 13 vs Tx State) and just 208 yards of total offense vs UTSA (as opposed to 326 vs Tx State). Yes, Nesbits disastrous 2012 offensive debut actually outperformed Friday nights fiasco by a healthy margin. Given the amount of talent he had at his disposal, Travis Bush has got to be the biggest joke in college football.

Hey guys, actually came on here to read up on Temple vs Navy and came across this thread. I noticed yall have thrown Bush's name around and doesn't look like anyone knows his background. Anyways I think you all will find Bush's background really interesting....enjoy.

http://www.uhcougars.com/sports/m-footbl...vis00.html

Coaching Accomplishments

• Travis Bush is in his third season at Houston and his first as Houston's Offensive Coordinator after serving 2013 as co-offensive coordinator and assistant head coach.............................................................................................................................Went ahead and skipped ahead to the good stuff

• As offensive coordinator at UTSA Bush was outstanding calling plays for the Roadrunners in 2011, helping the first-year program average nearly 27 points a contest. UTSA was balanced offensively, averaging 219.7 yards through the air and 144.8 yards on the ground. Bush was charged with the development of Eric Soza (WHO CAME FROM TXST) who threw for 2,148 yards and had 14 touchdowns compared to nine interceptions as a redshirt sophomore.

• Prior to his one season in San Antonio, Bush spent six seasons overall at Texas State, including three as the associate head coach and co-offensive coordinator for his alma mater His final season in San Marcos the Bobcats finished nationally ranked and were No. 8 nationally in passing offense (289 ypg) and No. 12 in total offense (422 ypg). Another of his quarterback protégés, Bradley George, was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year, throwing for 3,121 yards and 23 touchdowns while breaking 10 school passing records, including 9,556 career passing yards.

• Texas State won the Southland Conference in 2008, earning a trip to the NCAA Division I FCS Playoffs. Ranked No. 22 nationally as a team, Bush's offense ranked No. 5 in FCS in total offense (460 ypg) and fourth in scoring offense (38.3 ppg). George finished No. 6 nationally in pass efficiency, producing 2,401 passing yards and a school-record 25 TDs.

• In 2007, Bush was promoted to offensive coordinator after serving three seasons as Texas State's receivers coach. He directed a Bobcats' offensive unit that produced a 2,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard receiver and 1,000-yard running back for the first time in school history.

• Bush also spent three seasons as the receivers coach at Texas State (2004-06), helping the club to the 2005 national semifinals of the Football Championship Subdivision (UNDER CURRENT RICE COACH DAVID BAILIFF and CURRENT OHIO STATE OC TOM HERMAN ).

• Bush began his coaching tenure at TCU as a graduate assistant. He worked with the Horned Frogs' offensive line from 2001-03 and helped the club make three consecutive bowl appearances and capture Conference USA and Liberty Bowl Championships.

• Bush graduated from Gregory-Portland High School in 1995 where he was a UIL 4A all-state quarterback. He moved on to Texas State, lettering four seasons as a receiver and serving as the Bobcats' special teams' captain in 1999. He was also awarded the J.C. Kellam Award in 1999, which honors Texas State's most outstanding senior football student-athlete.

• Bush graduated from Texas State in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science and holds teaching certificates in mathematics and physical education. He earned a master's degree in education administration from TCU in 2003.

• Bush's father, Bruce Bush, has enjoyed a storied career in the state of Texas as a high school coach and has won 284 games in 35 seasons. Travis coached with his father at San Marcos High School in 2000 and the duo helped the program to an 11-1 overall record.

I know all this. All his success came at the FCS level. For instance, in 2011, UTSA played a 10 game schedule consisting of 2 NAIA schools, 1 D2 school, 1 D3 school and 6 FCS schools. They finished 4-6 and lost to a D3 team at home. Additionally, the current offense at UTSA is nothing like the offense Bush ran that year. Bottom line---what works at the FCS level is not always going to translate to the FBS level where the defensive players are faster and more mobile.

I hope he rebounds, but Bush had nine months to construct a game plan and prepare his players for the season opener---and the results were a joke. I think its unlikely he is going to suddenly develop the ability to spit out brilliant offensive game plans on a weekly basis. He needs to head back to FCS where his vanilla schemes are effective. We run the Air Raid offense and its obvious he is very limited in his knowledge of how to adjust the Air Raid offense to what the defense is doing. Hopefully he learns on the job, because he is big buddies with Levine and isn't going anywhere.

Your probably right. I watched a little of that game and UH Offense looked like very confused. I think it's a head coach problem personally. I don't know if I've ever seen a coordinator firing/rehire situation result in head coach improving into a conference winning machine. Didn't work for Mack and I don't think it's going to work for Muschamp or Hoke either. Kind of like the corporate world, when there's problems, the finger is pointed at the minions, but it's usually management that's the problem.

In all fairness I think the UTSA team deserves a little more credibility than what they're getting. They have more talented senior players and lot better schemes than that FCS laden TXST team yall lost too. So I wouldn't be throwing in the towel for the season just yet; still think Houston can contend.

Good Luck

Thanks! I lean toward agreeing with your analysis. I think Levine has potential, but he has struggled with major hires. Assuming Bush is gone at the end of the year, Levine will be looking for his 5th OC in 4 years. He also canned his original DC---but he hit a homerun with the Gibbs hire (of course, if you look at Gibbs resume, he was a no brainer hire). Frankly, I think if Levine crashes and burns with Bush this year, he is done.

Rumor has it Bush doesn't know how to run an offense, he knows formations and that's it. He can't make adjustments when the Defense does something which is obvious. Also it was said on another board we went two days in spring practice without 1 completion. Not 1 in two days. Just let that sink in. It also came from a person that is normally very reliable with information. He had been telling us all summer that the O was way off kilter and he hoped he would be wrong, well he wasn't.
