I think that game will be well attended if Kennesaw proves to be as good a team as most predict. But this quote from the article made me cringe: "Georgia State will host Kennesaw State in Atlanta on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018. The game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools and could be the start of a local, in-state rivalry." How could any FCS school be a rival of a FBS school?

Man, I'm split here on who I would root for. Even though I never had an attachment to KSU during the 26 years I lived in Marietta, the similarities between KSU and GaSo when GaSo first started football are sizable. I'll probably lean toward GaSt since they are now a conference mate.

RE: Georgia State adds Kennesaw State to 2018 Football Schedule
Great scheduling by Georgia State here. No guarantee that KSU will be a great team and the Panthers should be established by this point. It's a cheap bill for a local opponent that has some interest and should put some more fans in the stands. It could potentially get some play as a "city" matchup.

it wouldn't be a bad thing to get them on the schedule yearly (assuming the plan is for 1 FCS every year) as long as they don't become something like NDSU. It's a cheap cheap game and should be a win. The college football world doesn't really care who the FCS is that you're playing. One FCS is the same as another. They only care when you lose to them.

Plus if we were to get the Ted, and it not be ready in 10 months for the start of the 2017 season... it would be a good way to open it in 2018. Can't get mad at Georgia and Georgia Tech if you are not willing to do the same.

The Cajuns kept one of those up for years (McNeese State). I do think it's unlikely to happen anymore, though.

I don't think this will be an every year occurrence. Maybe a once every 3 or 4 years.

Or it could mean KSU is planning on being FBS in a few years and positioning itself for an invite to...........(wait for it) .. the Sun Belt.

Now the question is whether Georgia Southern schedules them as well?

I'll guess their will be at least a home and Home between KSU and UNC-Charolotte while they are in transition.

This could also be the "clash of the claws".

Of course, if no one knows or remembers what the "Kennesaw Claw" is, that joke makes no sense...

Kennesaw State could possible a good fit for the Belt in 8-10 years from now. Are they even thinking of going FBS?

He has always implied that KSU was not worthy of being on the same field with GSU. His main reason was that KSU would never get its act together with their facilities.

I would assume they are and looking at Ga State's progression to FBS/SBC. In their mind, they are behind Missouri State for the next invite to the SBC.

I do not believe Ga Southern would be negative to at least one game in the metro area every year. The same with Troy and South Alabama. What say you App State brethren?

The game time/date jumped out at me as well. Usually, game times and dates are announced a few months before the season. So it made me wonder if the anticipated opening day for KSUs first Sun Belt game as a member?
