RE: Good Write Up For Temple Fans
Should have been 6-6 last season with basically the same team back this season. Should have been, but the fact is we ended up 2-10. Last season the team had four major weaknesses, youth, the defensive backfield, pass rush and kicking. All have been addressed. Though we still have a young team, only 5 seniors, we now have an experienced young team, with a second year QB who would have set school passing records had he been ready to play from game one last year. Rhule brought in a huge number of defensive backs including experienced juco All Americans, plus several who return with more experience from last season. He said yesterday that we have close to half a dozen CB's and another half dozen safeties who can play. The pass rush has been addressed both with 2014 recruits , position changes and returnees with more experience. Last season, kicking a field goal was not much of an option . Had we been able to kick field goals instead of being forced to "go for it" on too many occasions, we would have won those games that we ended up losing in the last minutes. We brought in a highly touted kicker this year, who won a lot of kicking competition awards and was 13th at the 2014 Kohls kicking camp, but this is the one area that remains the biggest question mark. We also improved our coaching staff with new OL and DL coaches.

Clearly defense was the problem last year as the offense, once PJ Walker took over, scored on everyone , 41 vs Memphis , 36 versus UCF , 49 vesus SMU . Temple had the lead for over 80% of the games after Walker became the starter. We lost games literally in the last seconds because the defense just faltered.

The schedule is slightly tougher this year. Replace Notre Dame with Penn St , not much difference, Army with Navy is a huge difference. Louisville with ECU , not much difference Rutgers with a weaker than last year Vandy isn't much of a difference.

We can have a winning record this year.

He does a good job for someone who knows nothing about Temple, but he does it so early that a lot of what he writes ends up worthless.

-Delvon Randall (sic on Deivon) didn't qualify

-Derrick Ingram didn't qualify

-They left off the two true freshmen WRs most likely to make an impact in Matt Eaton and Derrek Thomas

-Colin Thompson transferred from Florida and is eligible right away

-Jabo Lee is still hurt

-Zach Hooks was thrown off the team

-Adam Metz left

-Shahbaz Ahmed moved from DL to OL

-Finch moved to DL

-Temple picked up JUCO DL Julio DeRosier

-Buddy Brown is still hurt

-Dvoracek is out for the year

-They mention Jared Folks as an impact player (no)

-They completely neglected to mention Temple's most heralded incoming player on the DL in Michael Dogbe, and the one who as of now seems poised to make the earliest impact in DL Jacob Martin

-Freddie Booth-Lloyd is going to be awesome if he loses weight, but he's not ready to make an impact

-Praise Martin-Oguike isn't on there and he's likely to start

-Shippen moved to WR

-Marshall moved to LB

-Thomas moved to RB

-Hairston moved to WR

-They have nothing on our special teams, as K Austin Jones signed after signing day

They really should do the write ups in June or July.

But you have to admit, besides these couple of tiny oversights it’s pretty much right on the money! (Sarcasm)

I see an improvement from last year based on the weaknesses that have been addressed and a full season of Walker at the helm. A good year would be to qualify for a bowl but you never know.
