Calm Discussion about USF "The Team" Uniform
I really don't want this to be a smack topic. I just have questions that I hope a USF fan can answer.

NCAA has rules against having the name substituted out on jersey.

Source:
http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/...erseys.pdf

Quote:By interpretation, only military service academies may substitute words such as Honor, Integrity, etc. for the player’s name on the back of the jersey. This interpretation applies only to the military service academies; civilian institutions may not substitute other words for the player’s name. A single manufacturer’s or distributor’s normal label or trademark that does not exceed 2.25 square inches in area also may be included.

Quote:Teams wearing jerseys that do not conform to this rule will be asked to change into legal jerseys before the game and before the start of each quarter until the jerseys are changed. Officials shall charge a team timeout at the start of each quarter the illegal jerseys are worn.

Is USF going to proceed with this uniform regardless of the rules?

I think these are fairly new rules that the ncaa established, fearing jerseys might start looking like Nascar jumpsuits with sponsors. IIRC some college put a corporate logo in an end zone and the ncaa went ape ****.

Well, it's a TEAM penalty, so it's all good.

It's a rule that hasn't been enforced until the recent proliferation of teams doing that. They sent out a memo recently about it and will enforce it this year.

Come on, man. I'm trying to have a serious talk. This hurts the AAC in our OOC games.

I honestly had missed this news... Googled and found a pic here:

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/08/usf-foot...s-the-team

I get the whole no-I-in-team concept, and it's the right philosophy to have... but these jerseys seem a bit like a gimic to me. But I liked the service academy jerseys that had words like 'west point', duty, honor, etc.. so maybe I'm a hypocrite. I'd rather they put 'South Florida' or something similar..

I have no idea about the rules, but indeed this seems to have been done before... so somehow this must be 'legal'

If you want to promote the team over individuals, why not just leave the names off completely? That's what we do.

My guess is that if "THE TEAM" on the back of the jersey is against the rules, they'll wear it for practice and not have anything on the back of the jerseys, which I think is better anyway.

Good luck having a serious conversation, about something that shouldn't be taken seriously.

Or just not have anything above the numbers on the back altogether. (Just my two cents.)

Other teams have done it both in the Pros and in College. It's just that USF is doing it that makes it bad. What a load of 01-rivals.

Proof positive that UCF/USF fans will point out anything questionable about literally anything having to do with each other. I'm not being critical at all, it contributes to great rivalries, intense fans, great attendance, and entertaining games.

I think it doesn't make sense for any team to put "the team" on the back of jerseys. (Navy, Air Force, and Army get away with it, however, because of who they are and what they stand for.) For me, it's either players' names or no names. Nothing in between will suffice. So no, USF putting "The Team" on the back doesn't make sense to me. I get the message the program is trying to send though, and I actually like it. Seriously, great message. Just think the way you're going about sending said message is wrong. That's all.

no...teams in college have left it blank or had word like "honor" "integrity" etc..
"The Team" is kinda corny...
