Combined College Practices...
As I watch coverage of the NFL training camps I see that some teams combine their camps with other teams. I saw the Pats and Skins practicing together and it got me thinking...

I wonder if it has ever been thought to combine some fall camps with other schools... i.e. soft scrimmages setup between two conference teams a couple times during the end of camp. Something of a pre-season contest before the first full speed games of the season..

Thoughts?

coaches have thrown around the idea for a spring scrimmage against another school but the ncaa says no from what I have seen.

High schools down south do this in many states.

High schools here kinda do that too Kimbo. I know that we did back when I was playing. And my friends who coach in the area have them as well. Usually like a week before the first games and kinda a 4 team round robin thing.

They also have 7 on 7 passing leagues in the summer. Not exactly the same but similar.

Yes in michigan you can have one scrimmage? Used to be 2 and might still be but I am out of the loop on that. I was referring to the spring down south in high school. There is no spring ball in michigan high school football. In the fall in michigan we used to have a multiple team scrimmage and then a one on one scrimmage before the first game.

I think it would be pretty awesome if WMU traveled down the road south to take on the golden dome-er's for a scrimmage at the end of each fall camp... from what I have seen in the past we have a pretty good relationship with the program down there.... didn't we borrow their facilities one year or the other way around... can't remember the details.

Not so sure I like this idea. Why risk injuries playing against bigger BCS opponents in a scrimmage? The experience would be great, but an injury would be costly. Save it for the big payday games.

RE: Combined College Practices...
Known in parts of Florida as the Spring Jamboree, high schools are allowed to participate in a full-fledged game if they so desire. Here in Citrus County, home of Antoin Scriven, Citrus High School played Tampa area Countryside High School in May. These games include full band shows at halftime, the works as it were. Schools may opt to play a controlled scrimmage vs. multiple schools too. There's always some very interesting matchups in Spring football.
