RE: Roster Changes
He got a second chance at playing D-1 ball, but it didn't seem like he wanted to work for a spot on the depth chart. Good riddance.

Ernsberger's HS should be listed as (Lakeview).

Usually guys wait until they are famous and well paid athletes before spending time and resources getting into the "music business". Seems like a poor choice to me but then again I rate college football way higher than rap and I don't have to wake up at 5 am for conditioning.

I think this is a good sign. Fleck said from the start this was a second chance that Harris had, and if he was serious about football then he would get it. Apparently he wasn't serious enough about football and they parted ways.

He sounded serious about football in this story from just over 4 months ago: http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2..._harr.html

A lot can change in four months. Most of the team has been there training hard, working out. Maybe he wasn't giving the kind of effort the staff was looking for.

I don't see the point. He is off the roster. They got to go with the guys they got.

A little research basically turned up him quitting in the middle of July. His choice sounds like. If his heart wasn't in it, then he shouldn't play.

RE: Roster Changes
Once stacked WR position not so stacked. Plenty of solid players, but with Johnson not qualifying it took some of shine off it. Kendrick Roberts was a 3 star recruit with multiple MAC offers coming out of HS. He was starting to contribute last year, hopefully he gets it done this year. Keith should be better this year as well. Cubit had him slotted as his best returning receiver when he came back from the blown knee. Both Davis and Roberts passed him by.

Alec Mouton played a significant number of possessions in a few games and was effective. No drops, showed good hands and ran good routes. Reminded me of
Arnheim.

I think he has to put Ferguson in the slot at this point. We have enough depth at safety. If he was good enough to play WR as a freshmen at ND he's good enough to start on our 1-11 team.

If Braverman is a 100% and Seabury is as good as the hype then maybe Ferguson stays on D.

RE: Roster Changes
I liked what I saw of Alex Moulten last year at Iowa. Not sure if the concussion that put him out for awhile still lingers. Not a burner but a route runner who catches then holds onto the ball.

I'm not sure Braverman is ready to go. Sounded like he had a setback in spring. But don't forget Billingslea and Phillips. It's possible Ferguson could move back again, but between Davis, Roberts, Keith, Phillips, Seabury and Billingslea, there is still some depth there. Davis has to stay healthy though.

Phillips is listed as a CB. I think Billingsea is redshirted. Smallish run after the catch receiver. Didn't get a lot of recruiting attention until he began standing out at camps.

Yeah and they say they hope to use Davis over the middle a bit more, where the hits are a bit tougher. But he is another year more mature as well which usually helps durability.

Phillips is a WR. They have listed him at CB since he signed last year, but he was moved officially to WR in the spring.

Tons of minor roster changes today (walk-ons and what not)... added a lot of depth at least.

Took a look at walkon QB Welke video. 6'3" and throws a nice variety of passes.

He'll have to be real special to ever see the field. Walk on starting quarterbacks are very rare.

RE: Roster Changes
A few interesting walk-on's/newbies that seem noteworthy:

Rodney Davis Jr. (Ottawa Hills H.S.)
Good athlete... played QB, punter, and DB. Could be a good special teams player.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2411690/high.../107429375

Brian Williams (DB transfer from Indiana)
Very intriguing that he started all 12 games as a junior for Indiana and led the team in PBU's.

Jeremiah Mullinax (DE from Southgate)
Huge frame at 6'5", 230 lbs. Curious to see how this one pans out.

Jake Achterberg (LB from Lakeshore)
Love his motor and his instincts. Reminds me of a Grant DePalma type. Awesome open field tackles at the 1:50 and 2:20 marks.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1490596/highlights/65665389

Ben Dreslinski (QB from Tecumseh)
Received a preferred walk-on offer at South Carolina, but later attended Northwood.
http://www.lenconnect.com/article/201207.../307099953
Impressive stats, but his film is nothing write home about.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1210220/highlights/24604373

Javon Cooney (WR from Lansing Sexton)
Broke single-season record at LS:
http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/news/a...en-bigger/
A lot of cherry-picking but still a burner and a pretty good route-runner. I like this kid. Pretty dynamic:
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3346387/highlights/87208375

Carrington Thompson (WR from Northwood)
I like his tall frame. Had a good freshman season at NW (11 catches, 565 yards, 7 TD's), albeit in the GLIAC:

11 catches for 565 yards? That has to be a mistake. That's like 50 yards a catch 04-jawdrop I don't think Calvin Johnson could put up those numbers at Northwood.

Oops, that was games played. 38 receptions. Looks like he's ineligible this season anyways (transfer rules).

The GLIAC is better than you think. GVSU has more NFL guys than a lot of D1 teams.

RE: Roster Changes
Here are the players not on yesterday's roster compared to 3/21/14 roster: Jay Harris WR Fr
Lonnie Johnson WR Fr
Alon Sims DB Fr
Chris Davis Athl RFr
Manny Diaz DE Sr
Del Shawn Phillips LB Fr
Chris Gore DL RFr

So, 4 of the recruiting class of 27 did not make it.
Diaz saw some limited playing time in the past.
Of course this does not count several kids who left the team between last season's last game and March 2014.
