The problem is this my friend, most Sun Belt fans already think that the Sun Belt is the better conference, the link you provided, doesn't support that. I'm not saying the writers are right, I'm not saying they're wrong, but it was your link and it didn't really help your argument.

As far as moving in different directions, you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I won't argue that in the last round of realignment that CUSA took a bigger step back than the Sun Belt did, but we both took steps back from where we were in 2012. Having said that, what makes you say that at this point the Sun Belt is moving forward and CUSA is moving backwards? Both conferences are full of members making facility improvements, increasing budgets, and paying coaches more than we ever have before, conversely both conferences have members that need to step it up in a big way.

We can simply agree to disagree about which conference is stronger today and which conference has a brighter future, but to suggest we're "moving in different directions" is laughable.

How is it not refutable based only on the mean? CUSA has more teams creating an unreliable comparison. Much like last year if the top performers in one conference finish ahead of their peers despite the dead weight dragging the overall conference down in any given season that conference still wins the day. If the Sun Belt bases it's future on teams making the jump from 1AA with the prospect that realignment is over for some time, Id say the Sun Belt suffered zero in this realignment with 10 national titles and as meany final four appearances over the previous "3" decades. Sure it's futile to predict the future but isn't that what your doing by suggesting that either conference took a step back? I like the Sun Belts position going forward.04-cheers

Think most would say that CUSA is the better overall conference right now, but the SBC is the better football conference, and have been for a couple of years.

CUSA having to add Charlotte next year means another hit.

This is just a short term discussion anyway.

Because the SBC was able keep their best football programs, and added some high ceiling football focused schools, I don't anticipate CUSA or the MAC matching them going forward.

The SBC's focus should be on staying ahead of the MWC, not those Conferences they have passed by in football.

Honestly I think the SBC has come out in a great position. All of the G5 are just about equal with a pecking order that is now VERY easy to change. Is CUSA better? I think so with the current Bowl deals and TV deals, but it is certainly debatable.

Before it was very hard for the SBC to "move up" the ladder as far as perception. NOW if a SBC seam has an exceptional year they will be in the access bowl and perception will tick up again. Just remember that ALL the G5 now have that shot as well. The playing field for the G5 is now pretty level IMHO. Now its up to the teams in the confrence to peform in order to elevate themselves and thier leagues. Every G5 has a chance to move up or down in relation to each other.

Best of luck to you all this year.

seems like it really boils down to which one of say: u-laf/n.ill./houston/fresno state will make it to the playoffs..the aac would seem to me to have the edge by having slightly better football programs overall..

IMO the only question any fan should have is 'can my football team be successful where it is at?', and that means having a good shot at a bowl game every year, which is why it is called the Football Bowl Subdivision.

If you answerer 'yes', then you are good to go, but for many the answerer is 'no'. Was yesterday, is today and will be the same tomorrow, so it really does not matter.

The fans that can say 'yes' already know their team can be successful going forward, because they are now (even if it were as an FCS). The rest are just engaging in the normal offseason wishing and hoping.

Right now I do not see being in any G5 Conference other than the AAC, as being a big advantage or disadvantage.

RE: Apparently CFB 24/7 thinks less of C-USA football than I.
It's about the transactions...

CUSA lost Houston, UCF, ECU, UCF, and Memphis. They fill these gaps with "marketz" .

The SBC retains solid athletic programs like UL, StAte, and Troy. They bring in USA, Texas State and Georgia State who can be much like MTSU in terms of just being good across the board in all sports. And the SBC picks up the two best FCS football programs to make the move to in almost two decades.

Objectively, who is more of a winner in this phase of realignment? You would think the lower a conference is on the totem pole the more of a hit they will take.

If you drew a line from 2000-2013 and plotted CUSA and the SBC one would have a negative slope, one a positive. I agree math is no laughing matter.

Why are you stopping at 2011? is something magical about that year? Why not 2010 or 2012 or 2013...

why would you pick 2011 out as a stopping point? It makes very little sense. I don't know what the numbers would be if you looked 5 years or 10 years...

frankly I don't care other than knowing why you would pick 2011 to start comparing. Let me guess if you went back any farther your numbers wouldn't look as good.

Like I said don't have a clue how those numbers would turn out but most people pick 5, 10, the 2000s forward something other than 2011

We beat ODU in 2011 as well.

So that would be 37 wins for the Sun Belt teams.

He also counted an Arkansas State win over Memphis.

Are numbers from 3 years ago relevant? no, but that wasn't why he stopped at 3 years. He stopped because it fit his purpose...

I feel confident in saying that and not even know how the numbers would look. But I will look.....

The reason he stopped at 3 years was because 4 years ago ....

ASU was 4-4, UL-L was 3-5...FIU was 6-2 and MUTS was 5-3 in the conference

The reason he didn't go back 5 years

MUTS were 7-1
FAU was 5-3
UL-L was 4-4
ASU was 3-4

Those numbers would not have fit his agenda

frankly I don't care other than knowing why you would pick 2011 to start comparing. Let me guess if you went back any farther your numbers wouldn't look as good.

Like I said don't have a clue how those numbers would turn out but most people pick 5, 10, the 2000s forward something other than 2011

Are numbers from 10 years ago, more relevant in determining today's power rankings, than numbers from the last 3 years?

Are numbers from 3 years ago relevant? no, but that wasn't why he stopped at 3 years. He stopped because it fit his purpose...

I feel confident in saying that and not even know how the numbers would look. But I will look.....

The reason he stopped at 3 years was because 4 years ago ....

The reason he didn't go back 5 years

Those numbers would not have fit his agenda
Surprising that a WKU fan would want to talk about pre-2011.

First of all I gave the mean as well as the median, furthermore I'm not sure comparing a group of 13 to a group of 11 is nearly a large enough difference to cause an "unreliable comparison", but that was simply for comparing the two conferences to one another based on the rankings the OP linked, that has nothing to do with the conferences taking a step back.

Now you're suggesting that the Sun Belt is better in 2014 than it was in 2012? I'm not talking about the future, I'm not talking about potential, I'm talking about the immediate reality of comparing CUSA before the last few years of realignment to today and the Sun Belt before the last few years of realignment to today both conferences haven taken a step back.

If your argument is that in 2014 Idaho, NMSU, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Texas State and App State are better than FAU, FIU, MT, UNT and WKU in 2012, you're a fool. Again speaking only about the immediate reality, both conferences have taken a step back. Believing that the Sun Belt has the brighter future is your prerogative, but FCS championships are irrelevant to the discussion.

If you drew a line from 2000-2013 and plotted CUSA and the SBC one would have a negative slope, one a positive. I agree math is no laughing matter.

Since 2000 CUSA has lost UCF, Cincy, Depaul, ECU, Houston, Louisville, Marquette, Memphis, St. Louis, South Florida, SMU, TCU, Tulane and Tulsa.

Since 2000 the Sun Belt has lost Denver, FAU, FIU, New Orleans, UNT, MT, and WKU.

That's 14 vs 7.

But why go all the way back to 2000? 2000 CUSA has as much to do with us as 2000 Sun Belt has to do with you.

In 2014, ww both have an upward trajectory, we are not moving in different directions,

Actually, I chose 2011 because that was the year in which I started attending Appalachian State University, so it had significant meaning to me. If you want to go through each Sun Belt team and look at their wins and losses from 1975 and on, I welcome you to! I have better things to do with my time than look at the records of twenty seasons to just make you feel better.

Actually, I chose 2011 because that was the year in which I started attending Appalachian State University, so it had significant meaning to me. If you want to go through each Sun Belt team and look at their wins and losses from 1975 and on, I welcome you to! I have better things to do with my time than look at the records of twenty seasons to just make you feel better.

So what does the year you started at Appalachian State University have to do with the SBC vs CUSA? You cherry picked...

it wasn't about time or the year you stated school...that's a silly excuse.

why would you pick 2011 out as a stopping point? It makes very little sense. I don't know what the numbers would be if you looked 5 years or 10 years...

frankly I don't care other than knowing why you would pick 2011 to start comparing. Let me guess if you went back any farther your numbers wouldn't look as good.

Like I said don't have a clue how those numbers would turn out but most people pick 5, 10, the 2000s forward something other than 2011

Are numbers from 10 years ago, more relevant in determining today's power rankings, than numbers from the last 3 years?

Are numbers from 3 years ago relevant? no, but that wasn't why he stopped at 3 years. He stopped because it fit his purpose...

Then you are more than welcome to go back through each school's record and find the wins and losses yourself. Doing three seasons alone took about 30 minutes. Go spend a few hours and do the last twenty seasons, as far as I'm concerned. Just because WKU is now in CUSA doesn't mean you're suddenly the big man on campus. I hope to see the Hilltoppers in Boone soon, just so this can all be put on the field and not in some online forum.
