nick saban questions this remark...

Spurrier is 3-1 against Saban, I really don't care about either of their championships or how many games they've won....both are fine coaches.

Anyone who has ECU winning at USC is high or drunk. I'm not even going to say "it wouldn't surprise me if we won." It would surprise me. I'll admit that I think we will go in and give them a fight and that it's not an impossible game to win, just very unlikely.

i think ecu has a shot, but it has to be in the 1st quarter..i think ECU can win but they have to strike early and pop them in the mouth and hope they react badly, or "change how they play in an attempt to catch up"..mentally and physically if this game is close or USCe is winning the worse a chance ECU has off pulling it out..with the SEC roster and the mental challange of we are playing a top 8-10 program do we have a chance. the ware of the game will set in at one point

another big question is can ECU stop SC's run game, as they will try to dictate the clock using that

ECU going undefeated SHOULD net them a playoff berth. It will definitely put them in the Access Bowl slot.

Idk, people are giving the B12 hell for not having a CCG, what's the difference here? FSU/Oregon/Ohio St/Bama+??? could probably win their CCGs with 1L and get bids.

I think beating USC gets us in the top 20, beating Va Tech and UNC gets us top 15, so it depends on if you think the AAC schedule can get us 11 spots

easily top 10, you'll be..top 20 with USCE, TOP 12 after vt ..8 or 9 after UNC..

the win vs USCe will be viewed as a great upset but they will say USCe is having a down year without shaw/clowney..its after the second win that ecu will be drastically boosted even if the opponent is viewed weaker than the first, because it wont be viewed as a fluke/ luck ..

and the off chance VT beats ohio state the week before... ECU undefeated = Playoffs and Carden Heisman

Pie in the sky...though it would be a dream come true for this Pirate. Here's to hoping the entire conference over achieves this year. 04-cheers

I think the only possible way for us to make the playoffs is to go undefeated and have SC win the SEC and either VT or UNC win the ACC. It would be hard to rationally leave us out if we beat two P5 champs head-to-head. Of course, odds of this happening are 1 in a million.

Of course, the ultimate American story would be for ECU and UCF to both be undefeated when we meet in the season finale. That would give the winner another feather in the resume cap.

FWIW, the chances of ECU beating UNC again this years maybe going up, because UNC will apparently be announcing that they have lost a few defensive players due to grades.

UNC has taken the story down, but here is the link to their board and the board of NC State:

ECU is Virginia Tech's most intriguing nonconference game - Daily Press (Hampton Roads, VA)

http://www.dailypress.com/sports/college...359.column

Some interesting quotes.

"East Carolina probably should be the team picked to win this conference....They went and destroyed a North Carolina team that beat us at the end of the year. They're well coached, they throw the ball around and they've got a quarterback that is very dynamic." - Cincinnati coach Tommy Tuberville

"We're not going to take a backseat to anyone....We see the landscape as five plus one, and we're knocking on the door. Our goal is to be in the conversation as the sixth power conference. I believe by virtue of our performance that we already are. As I said, we're knocking on the door, and we will eventually knock it down." - American commissioner Mike Aresco

"The expectations within our office and among the players (are) higher than anyone can put on (us from) the outside." - Pirates coach Ruffin McNeill

Same rumor popped up on the ECU 247 board a week or so ago. High school coach from the area mentioned he was hearing rumblings that apparently players have to go to class now.

JJ Patterson of UNC a 4 star lineman is supposedly transferring to ECU.

I'd take him but that's ripe for some smartass comments from Tarholes.

Which would be ridiculous, because if UNC had not been cheating to begin with; then a lot of the football and basketball players at UNC would have probably been at ECU.

What? It's not usually permitted within conference but we've had several UNC and NCSU transfers in recent years. Off the top of my head, Marcus Hands and Justin Dixon both DL's from UNC and Khadre Hooker a DL from NCSU is on the roster now. We had a Safety from NCSU recently I believe but I can't recall the name right now.

maybe the north carolina schools are different but 80% of schools restrict conference and anyone on your schedule for the upcoming season (to prevent trade secrets)

I've got us at 3-1 OOC (losing to UNC) and 6-2 in American play for a 9-3 season, though I'm hoping for a magical run like UCF had last year. We could easily go 7-5 with a couple of bad bounces though.
Steve Spurrier has never lost to a non BCS team or as it's called now a non power five team. Larry Fedora on the other hand couldn't lace Steve Spurrier's shoes.
If we ever beat Spurrier, this will be the year to do it. I hope Carden and Hardy remember the last trip to Columbia. Just booked my room and tickets. Had a blast last time. Got to punch them in the mouth early and never let off the gas.
