Aresco seems to forget that until now, we have never been a "have not" conference. The Big East was a Power Conference, which under the BCS system meant an AQ conference, and the AAC was last year as well. He's been commissioner for two years, and both years we have been a Power Conference. It's this coming year that we will, for the first time, be a low-resource David, and we will see how that turns out.

You know for a FACT that the entire country was up in arms about the fact that the Big East collapsed but that the contract stated that the conference still had their AQ spot. Everyone wanted the BCS to find a way to make it another At-Large spot (which UCF would've inevitably gotten anyway because of their record/rank/SOS).

You're an ECU fan with no experience in the Big East, so you can be forgiven for not understanding that the disparagement UCF received for getting a BCS bowl bid was absolutely nothing unusual: It was simply par-for-the-course for this conference, as the Big East's AQ status was ALWAYS disparaged for the past nine years, once Miami left the conference.

Also, there is no way that UCF would have gotten an at-large BCS bid last year. If that slot had been open, Oregon, ranked #10 in the final BCS standings, a much bigger name that played a much tougher schedule, and five spots ahead of UCF, would surely have gotten in instead of UCF had we not had our AQ status.

See how little "perception" mattered? Tons of people, fans and media, thought UCF didn't belong in a BCS bowl, but because it was in the contract, they got in anyway, even while a major power from another conference ranked much higher had to go to the Alamo Bowl instead. That's what it means to be a Big Boy, and that's what we were.

But not anymore. Now is when we find out if we can really compete without those advantages.

Kudos to Aresco. He is getting out to the media the right narrative. No reason the AAC can't send
an 11-1 team to the access bowl this season. And of course the sky is the limit once again for
basketball.

UCF doesn't get into a BCS bowl unless we were AQ. Simple as that.

Incorrect: Under the 2013 rules, there were three ways a non-AQ school could play in a BCS bowl:

1) If ranked in the top 12 and was the highest-ranked non-AQ school (gets in automatically)

2) If ranked in the top 16, and was the highest ranked non-AQ school, and ranked ahead of at least one champ of an AQ conference (gets in automatically)

3) If ranked in top 14, is eligible to be selected as an at-large.

UCF did not qualify on any count. They were ranked #15 (hence criteria 1 and 3 are ruled out) and they were ranked behind all the other AQ champs (so criterion 2 is out as well).

UCF got in solely because the AAC was an AQ conference last year.
