Not to mention 2 were home games and the 3rd was in Philly in front of one of the most apathetic football fan bases right now.

I am not a UConn fan but my guess is their fans are very excited about having a new coach. They absolutely hated Paul Pasquloni and felt he set the program back a few years. The optimism is the belief that Diaco will take them to the next level.

I forgive anyone for not following UConn football outside of the old BE, but before PP, we were quite a solid program. We expect that we can get back to that relatively quickly. We are not used to being a bottom feeder and we don't accept that position. We have had good players the last 3 years but the coaches sucked. I put way more blame on the staff than the players. We trust our guys will respond to the new leadership.

I cannot stress this enough, but as a fan of the sport not a rival fan, PLEASE temper your expectations of Bob Diaco.

We've been through this with you guys. When you lost Diaco, your avg. score against skyrocketed.

I agree. UConn was a very solid program in the old BE. Some of the newbies don't realize this. The UConn of before PP would have ground most of these teams into powder.

They did have a good run there for a couple of years. Not unusual for teams a few years after they move up from FCS. Those transition years of signing a ton of players usually equates to a solid team when those classes come to age.

From 2004-2011 they contended for 5 of the 7 years. Finished first twice. Sent 23 players to the NFL (on rosters). Had 4 players taken on the first day one year.

Second, a major downfall in that game for the Bearcats was the performance of their special teams. UC gave up a punt return for a TD, gave up a bunch of other long returns, shanked a bunch of punts, missed some field goals, etc. Special teams was a huge factor in the outcome of that performance. When you constantly give your opponent great field position you are not going to win games that often.

Re: UNC-- I know you ECU guys like to flash the final score of your game earlier in the season with the Tar Heels, but that was a different UNC team that played in the Belk Bowl. They got significantly better after they switched QB's mid-season.

On a final note, the prior season generally does not reflect how teams are ranked in a pre-season poll (although it is a factor). Writers also look at what the teams return (in this case UC has 16 returning starters v. ECU 11) and schedule.

I don't think UNC got trememendously better because of Quise Williams last year. In fact, I think the only reason he had any success was because of the lack of film on him. He really isn't all he's hyped up to be (and he didn't get all too much hype), and UNC has a RS Freshman QB that I think will be starting by the end of this year.

UNC got better from when they played us because they learned how to use Ryan Switzer as a scat back. Hell, when we played UNC he wasn't even returning their kicks, I think AJ Blue was.

I was at the Belk Bowl, and I'll tell you first hand. UC lost that game because of the lack of discipline on defense and special teams. Your offense was flat out screwed over multiple times in that 2nd half. It was my first look at UC in a long time and I my jaw almost hit the floor.

We (Cincy) were bad in the Belk Bowl. We were injured and undisciplined and I have no idea what was done in the extra practices; however, we have not talked about ECU and their bowl bid. I was totally unimpressed by the performance against the Bobcats. The Bobcats were fourth in the Mac. A close victory against a so so Mac team does not inspire confidence.

Close??? We beat them by 17 points…It took a little while to get our offense going but we controlled that game from the outset. Game was never really in doubt, the Bobcats came ready to play which is a credit to their great head coach.

He's just making fun of the ECU posters who seem to think the only barometer for UC's program was the bowl game against UNC. Most of the teams who have played us in the last 7 years have a different impression...

I think many ECU fans fire off the UNC/Cinny game because some think the only barometer for ECU's program was the Marshall debacle. We shate our pants in that game and UC's shate theirs against UNC. It happens, both could have done better than they did. UC had injuries, We had brain farts and a missed pick 6, and a holly shate what the **** was that game.

See, here's the difference... If the stupid media poll had picked ECU, UCF, or whatever other team to finish atop the conference, UC fans would have shrugged and said, "Whatever, we'll see you on the field."

Seriously. It's a pre-season media poll. It means NOTHING.

On that note, which team drew the bad luck "All top 4 card"?

EDIT: HOLY CRAP SMU.

Guys, SMU will be last. @Baylor, vs aTm, @ECU, vs. Cinci, @UCF, vs UofH...That's six teams that finished top 40 last year.

See, that's the thing, I 100% agree! it preseason. Who cares, the games are yet to be played and each team will have their say. I'm fine with the 4 spot, actually thankful, had we been picked first, dear lord we aren't going to win. We've been hexed.

Well said. I was expecting a preseason pick of 2nd with an outside chance at #3, (with UCF grabbing the top spot). That said, UC fans are used to our preseason rank and our record being 2 different things. I expect UC to finish 2nd or 3rd in the conference after everything is said and done.

I am looking forward to watching the top 4 of this conference duke it out with one another. There will be a few upsets from some of the lower picked teams.

Two things to watch out for with UC is the asinine 2 off weeks to start the season and the OSU game. The OSU game will get some hype and they will be bigger and faster. Prime recipe for a let down game. I think Toledo or Memphis have a good shot at beating UC because of when they play UC.

4- USF (@Cincy), SMU(@ECU& UCF), Temple(@UCF & UH), Tulane (@ECU, UCF & UH).
3- UConn (@ECU- No UH), Tulsa (@UH & UCF- No Cincy),
2- Memphis (@Cincy - No UCF or ECU).

Let your scenarios run wild.

If I recall the vote totals right, there is a 100pt drop off from ECU @ 4 to SMU @ 5. I think there was only a 30pt spread between UC and UCF.

I can buy this prediction from the media.

It will be determined on the field so not worried about pre season rankings. Last year as bad as USF was, it probably had its best conference games vs UCF,UC and UH going 1-2 and being in all three games till the end.

Last year the Media poll pretty much underrated the newbies. Three of the four finished quite a bit higher than predicted, all four were at least one spot higher. So we will see if they did it again.
1. UL (Reality - 2)
2. UC (3)
3. Rutgers (6)
4. UCF (1)
5. USF (8)
6. UH (4)
7. UConn (7)
8. SMU (5)
9. Temple (10)
10. Memphis (9)

3 out of the 4 that were underrated in last year's preseason poll were CUSA teams moving to basically a new conf.
