Sun Herald (Biloxi-Gulfport) bills Tulsa, UCF, & ECU as top 5 greatest C-USA programs
http://www.sunherald.com/2014/07/27/5716...p=/99/228/

1. USM
2. Louisville
3. Tulsa
4. UCF
5. ECU

Honorable Mention: UH & TCU

I think these rankings are pretty good but I could see ECU & UH being higher due to work put in back in C-USA 1.0.

ECU had the same number of championships (2) in C-USA 2.0 as UCF and Tulsa and had winning records against each program. Further, ECU was responsible for a great deal of C-USA's biggest OOC wins over the years. Additionally, ECU finished 2nd in C-USA on 7 different occasions and was always a perennial contender even back in the C-USA 1.0 days. I think ECU doesn't quite get the respect it deserves because of brutal OOC schedules often lowering the total number of wins per season.

UH won the inaugural C-USA football championship and pretty much had solid teams throughout. The Coogs should have won more championships then they did (just like ECU) but they were always strong and often made a splash on the national level.

How many championship games were the pirates in? I am just asking. There were at least two championship games we could have/should have won including the last one against Tulsa

Tulsa was 2-1 in conference championships losing to ECU once. Is this purely football? Because in overall sports, Tulsa was vastly superior to all the other schools.

In football Tulsa did benefit from being in the slightly weaker west division, but we had a lot of competition with the good Houston teams for division titles.

so the c-usa team that was in the ap top 25 the most weeks in over the last 7 years, had the most touted c-usa team outside of maybe the louisvillle 04 team, had the leagues biggest upset, the only team who legitimately had a shot at the bcs, wasnt a top 5 c-usa program?? alright ..moving on

Not to take away from UH but if you read the article it is about CUSA over the last 20 years, not 7. I am not going to argue one way or the other but the author tells you why he picks ECU over UH. He says houston struggled their first 10 years in the league.

Maybe, but I think USM was clearly the best overall football program in CUSA.

and louisville wasnt in it for the last 8 but still go #2 and tcu got honorable mention from a total of 4 years in c-usa...

his method=
a team has a great few years & leaves
another team had the same amount great years or more..but was their longer and had some more bad season..but becuase they had extra years the good seasons dont count
its to the notion someone gives you 4 $100 bills, another person give you $500 but hit some hard times and gives you 3 $5 bills..does the fact they can only give you $5 on the bad years, change the fact they still gave you more than than person who gave you only $300?

you see the rankings he had before this... "top individual c-usa seasons" he label usms 2011 season as a better season than houston 2011 season

yes usm beat houston in the CCG but houston was still 13-1 ranked higher, more touted , USM lost to 2 horrible teams (uab and marshall)..and houston destroyed a ranked team in their bowl game

the only person that would rank usm 2011 season over houston's 2011 is a USM homer

Houston choked in a lot of CCG games it doesnt change the fact that they still had great seasons, remove CCG and use regular season champs (like it was the first 100 years of college football) Houston would have had the most Championships in c-usa over the last 7 years

From the article: 18 consecutive winning seasons and 16 of them in CUSA. However I doubt they went to a bowl all of those years just based on the system.

That's a pretty good winning %. They certainly gave us a run for our money

03-lmfao

And if the NFL would have just done away with the Super Bowl, the Buffalo Bills would have alot more championships than they currently have.

The 2011 Houston team was thoroughly demolished at home by USM.
