One thing you fail to remember, Husky, is that Big East Football didn't really exist until it started taking the teams FROM C-USA. You probably also don't know that Tulane is the only land grant State University in the country to go private.

I don't think Tulane is any better or worse than the average AAC team. Frankly, we've been downright bad for most of the past 15 years. There is no coincidence that this is the same time frame our recently retired President Cowen was running things. This guy, (a UConn graduate) did more to ruin Tulane than Katrina did. By all reasonable measures, Cowen was a disaster. He ruined Tulane Athletics diminishing the fan base to a few thick skinned souls while also overseeing a huge drop in our academic rankings. He got rid of most Engineering in the wake of Katrina. We finished his first year as the #7 team in the country. He went out of his way to not hire Rich Rodriguez, instead hiring a loser named Chris Scelfo (and didn't even have the courtesy to call Rodriguez, whom had been promised the promotion and showed up expecting to be named HC.)
So as a Tulane fan, I'm not hear beating my chest. I'm just glad that Cowen is finally gone, and can only hope his crony Rick Dickson (Tulane AD) goes SOON.

But there's an awful lot in Husky's original post that comes off as a condescending attitude. At least he's realistic enough to let the team play a few games before declaring the Husky's vastly improved.

UCONN is winning. We're miles better than the last 3 years, and we'll prove it here by beating BYU.

I love how DefCONN1 can state as fact "we're miles better than the last three years." How do you know that? YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED A GAME YET! The coach has never been a head coach. Yet, you state as fact that the team is so much better. 03-lmfao

Sorry, DefCONN, but your team might be better (we'll see over the course of the season) but you're still going to lose a bunch of games, including one in East Hartford on 8/29 and one in New Orleans on 10/11.

ROLL WAVE!

It is true that there is no way to know how UConn will be with a new first time head coach. However, with the returning talent that we have, we should be better than the rock bottom that we hit last year.

UConn should lose to BYU. Most preseason rankings rank BYU just outside the top 25. However, declaring that UConn will lose to Tulane is a bit premature. Tulane isn't exactly hovering around the top 25. Tulane and UConn will be pretty even teams this year (and the edge actually goes slightly to UConn as a team). If this game was being played at UConn, my money would definitely be on UConn. Nonetheless, this one is still winnable for UConn at Tulane. We will know once there is a final score on 10/11.

UCF and Temple could both win and I hope to be pleasantly surprised. As for SMU and UConn: I am 99% sure that both teams will lose. SMU will lose by at least 21. I think that UConn's game will be closer; I'm thinking BYU 34, UConn 24.

Agree with your picks and assessments. UCF and Temple could win their games and wouldn't be surprised if they did. I don't think UConn has the horses to match up with BYU at this time.

UCF,SMU and Temple do have the biggest statement games for the conference in game one. Would be nice if they could pull them out.

UConn WAS in the conference when West Virginia was in it. We played them for over a decade. UConn's Big East schedule was definitely harder than Tulane's CUSA schedule over the past decade. To claim otherwise is to not really know FBS football.

No offense to Tulane fans, but your school has been "off the grid" in athletics (hoop and football) for so long that I can't believe that you are dissing UConn. UConn is light years ahead in athletics. The only thing that Tulane fans can currently brag about it baseball. Other than that one sport, you will need to prove yourselves before slamming schools that are more successful than your own.

I disagree on two counts:
1) Big East football had Miami, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia. Those three teams were HUGE back then and had more dominant moments on the big stage than any team that was pulled up from CUSA since (including Louisville)
2) Don't blame Cowen for Tulane's previous failures. Blame the culture at Tulane for his inability to get things done. Anyway, he is the dude who got Tulane out of CUSA. You should be writing him a thank you note!

1. I don't believe UConn was in the Big East for Football when The U, WV, and VaTech were in the conference.2. You obviously know nothing about Scott Cowen. He got us in only because of relationships his crony, Rick Dickson, has with Aresco. Scotty boy did more dishing of the Big East conference in the years leading up to Tulane being extended an invite than he did any other P6 conference. Scotty boy failed to hire Rich Rodriquez because he feared he would leave and/or be more popular than himself. He also until very recently refused to pay a coach more than his salary. Cowen was a media player, and had very little substance behind his self-generated headlines.

I was not slamming UConn, just pointing out a few things. If you read my previous posts, I blame Cowen and Dickson for the state of Tulane Athletics. AND we went to a bowl game last year.

You came back at me saying it was Tulane's fault, not Cowen's . How inaccurate that statement is can only be eclipsed by your comment about Tulane Baseball. We haven't even made the C-USA tournament in the last 4 years, and 6 years without making the NCAA tournament. That should change with the new baseball coach.

As far as saying UConn is lightyears ahead of Tulane, I agree! As a matter of fact, I make that argument frequently on the Tulane d-board.
I started the comments in our discussion pointing out that the comments about UConn were somewhat snotty, looking down upon those schools that just came in from C-USA. I didn't brag about Tulane, nor say we're better than UConn. Please show me where that came from. My first "bragging" comment in the thread was in THIS POST pointing out that we went to a bowl game last year. Should have won it, but had a miserable start including one of the worst pick-6's I've ever seen a D1 QB throw. He''s Joe Montana's son and will most likely ride pine this year.

Tulane started playing football in 1894. We were a founding member of the SEC (and still hold more SEC Football championships than 5 current members COMBINED). So let's not talk about the Johnny Come Lately's looking down your nose at fans of schools new to a conference that's about to start its' SECOND YEAR.

The newbies from CUSA talk about UConn football like they are better than it, when the reality is that UConn has still done more than some of these CUSA programs. In addition, UConn is still closer to being a "major" program based on UConn being a land grant state university. UConn is the main "State U" in its state and does not have to share the spotlight with any other FBS program. Also, UConn has a larger fan base than many of the schools in this conference. The fact that UConn has a short history at the FBS level is irrelevant. UConn has been solid most years at the FBS level and was only bad the last three years.

Uconn has a very good & very young head coach. I do not know much about Bob Diaco's staff to make a comment. However, I do wish all the success in the world to the Uconn football program. I hope it takes less time for Diaco than it took Edsall to punch his ticket out of Storrs. UConn is a historical D-1AA joke when it comes to playing football. The recruiting competition in the mid-atlantic states will leave you sucking rear tit. The talent coming out of new england will send you all back to the FCS.
