Now, obviously, none of us were in the room, but saying "I'm going to make you a first round pick" v. "I'm going to do everything I can to make you a first round pick" and "You are going to play man corner all game" v. "You can play man corner all game" are DRASTICALLY different.

Trust me, I'm no apologist and this is the first time in about a decade that I didn't renew my season tickets (for several reasons). However, I work with high school kids, and they hear exactly what they want to hear. Tyree even said so in the referenced post. A couple of words make ALL of the difference and a salesman (recruiter) knows EXACTLY how to use them. Now Fleck is, agreeably, unseasoned in this regard and he may have said the exact words that Tyree quoted. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if Tyree relayed his interpretation of what he heard.

Ditto your statement. I also work around HS kids and get sick and tired of hearing some of our football players saying, "I'm going D1 cause I got a camp brochure from XYZ" Really son, sorry to burst your bubble but thousands upon thousands of kids got that brochure. Until you start getting hand written letters or offers from D1 schools...all that mail you have been getting means nothing.
Kids interpret things the way they want to interpret them and I believe this is the case with Tyree. Fleck probably asked him if he wants to play in the NFL as he should. Tyree answered, Yes, want to be a first round draft choice" Fleck responds, "we can help you do that son, but it is gonna take a lot of work and effort on your part to get there".

^ I don't think implying that a young man, and a future WMU varsity member is lying is a great way to go about defending this coach that you admire so much, it kind of takes away from the positives by taking down this kids' account of what he said and heard.

Maybe just leave it go and wait to see if he actually pans out as a player is the best course to take? Just a suggestion.

Not implying that at all. But, prior comments suggested that Fleck promised this kid the world in his basement and have the "quote" attached to every comment they post. I'm just pointing out that none of us know what really went on...so stop talking about what PJ is promising or what context the conversation was received by a young recruit. It can be interpreted in a variety of ways, especially on this board...love or hate PJ

I saw a quote from the kid himself that implied that PJ said he was going to make him a first round pick.

Rather than get worked up about that and call the young man a liar, how about backing off and showing some patience and understanding his way?

RE: Martin losing verbals
I'm sure Perj talked about how he coached in the NFL played there, and he knows what it takes, and that he'd work him hard enough to be/ the way a first rounder works etc. I honestly haven't heard anything out of line from him on his pitches, 17 year olds just can't interpret his spin the way we all can. (How is he saying it, and what is he not saying) are things we all look out for, but not when you are 17. We all were that way.

I don't believe Peej has said something on the record that was a "lie" just more his version of reality. Peej strikes me as honest and sincere, I believe he honestly believes what he says, and probably has an over inflated sense of his impact, but he's not a liar.

If he tells a kid " I can make you a first rounder" that's different than saying "I promise you'll get drafted in the first round." And I honestly believe Peej believes he can make that kid a first rounder. But if he doesn't make it we know Peej will have a "reason".

There are many like PJ that have their own version of reality ringing around their heads, many of them owe that quality to why they succeed in life and business. See it all the time.

Most successful CEO's are diagnosed sociopaths. I read it in the paper.

Most of us fit in that category I'm afraid, but it's not a bad thing. I happen to think that having a good resume and a good eulogy aren't mutually exclusive.

I would imagine a bronze statue will go up on Stadium Drive if we won MAC titles. I'd probably help pitch in.

Oh right, let me get back to the topic we were discussing. Maybe let's give Stone the benefit of the doubt being a young man and a future key player on our defense, and not be so stringent in the defense of PJ.

PJ is a grownup and Stone is a young man, PJ can take the criticism. Young people? Not so much.
