Where to stay in Toledo?
Hi everyone - Mizzou fan coming to Toledo for the first time. I'm looking for any recommendations you may have on where to stay and what to do? We're flying into Detroit and renting a car, but I'd prefer not to drive on gameday, so hoping to find a hotel that's close to any entertainment district (looks like maybe a good one downtown near baseball stadium?) that has a shuttle to/from campus. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

I don't believe there are any shuttles that run to/from campus. But parking is only $5 (might be raising to $10 this year???). There are some decent hotels downtown, but the Mud Hens (minor league baseball) season ends on Labor Day.

Driving to and from campus on game day is not too bad. If you go an hour or 2 before game time, you probably won't run into much traffic. There is a hotel on the medical campus about 2 miles away and only a 5-10 minute drive.

If you are looking for a place stay where you can have a few drinks and not have to worry; check out the Hilton Garden Inn in nearby Perrysburg, Ohio. It's about a 20 minute drive from the stadium. The hotel is situated in the back of an open air mall called Levis Commons (check out the website), that looks like a small village. Right across from the hotel, is a building that has comedy/dinner club, and a martini bar adjoined to a cigar bar. There are other bars and restaurants located in and around Levis Commons (all within walking distance of the hotel), including one owned by current Rocket NFL players Bruce Gradkowski and Lance Moore. On the other side of the overpass, is a strip mall area with a few bars and restaurants. Downtown Toledo has a few bars, but it probably won't be that happening, that time of year.

There's a brand new hotel (Hampton Inn & Suites) right down from the University on Secor Road. I'm not sure the exact date it opens but it looks like it's pretty close to opening. A downtown hotel would also be nice.

The Mud Hens finally got over the .500 mark and are so close to the division leader. I'm really hoping for a strong push in the last month. It's been a few years since they've made the playoffs. It's about time.

RE: Where to stay in Toledo?
Isn't there a new hotel opening at Westgate? I don't even know if it will be open by football season but that's about a mile from campus and close to bars and restaurants including another of Gradkowski's and Moore's as well as Franklin Park. Levis commons is a nice area as well. Downtown is closer to the casino. I guess it depends on what type of entertainment you're looking for. What ever the case, driving into and out of campus, even on gameday is fairly easy. I was at our game in Columbia last year and it's every bit as easy if not easier than that.

There is some good information in the 'Visiting fan questions' thread above. Just a thought--it would be a good idea to post the most recent information, like about the new hotels, restaurants, in that thread as well. I updated a link in one of my posts and deleted one that was no longer really relevant (a number of the posts go back to 2011 and are not that relevant to the subject anymore).

We had a discussion not too long ago about the increase in the parking fee. The conclusion was that it has probably gone up to $10.

I remember it cost more than $10 to park in the garage in Columbia last year. But it was worth it because we were in the shade upstairs with a breeze on a 95 degree day.

$10 isn't much to pay but as an alternative you can safely park in Old Orchard. Even parking north of Kenwood, it's only about a mile walk to the stadium. The tailgating is worth the $10 as far as I'm concerned.

To Missouri fans who plan to stay downtown, The game is on the same weekend as our Greek American Festival which I believe is the final ethnic festival of the year. Definitely worth the price of admission and directly on the corner of Summit and Cherry. There's also a Titanic exhibition at the Science Museum if that interests you.
