Didn't we hire a head basketball coach with zero coaching experience?

Not to my knowledge.

RE: Martin - Could Ole Miss offer Hamilton/Skal package deal?
If you want to:

- argue YMT/TBT/MR (again, why people care about this to the point they do is honestly beyond me, they are/were all good sites in the ecosystem and I really am flabbergasted that people really want to give the owners of those sites a hard time. Further, mt.org isn't the place for MR/YMT/TBT/Rivals/etc wars. Arguing those sites damages the dialogue here. Let's keep on topic and give the BH/AAA/FUTs of the world some respect for trying to add to the Tigers ecosystem.

- spend a ton of time trashing other posters about stuff that is not applicable

Then go here:
http://csnbbs.com/thread-695933.html

If you want to actually discuss the actual content of this thread (the feasibility of Ole Miss getting Skal via a package deal or hiring move), then stay right here.

Thanks!

John Martin doesn't know the deal with Skal. He is fishing for hits. Dude got banned from his own high school.

Not true, but the AD at WSHS can be a quite disagreeable person.

I can't think of one either; maybe somebody back in the '50s?

Yeah, my memory banks don't go back that far. Must be the early days.

He may not know, but since he does this for a living, I won't dismiss his take out of hand.

Why are some of you so quick to doubt a guy whose job it is to cover this stuff? He seems to simply be saying Ole Miss is in the game, not winning. that doesn't strike me as hard to believe.

I'm not saying Martin is right, its just that some of our posters are convinced he is worthless. He is under 25 working on sports for a living. Sounds like he is ok in life early on. Why the hatred, I honestly don't get it.

Well if it was I can't think of who. As far as I can remember we have never hired anyone with zero coaching experience.

He had coaching experience, but not head coaching experience. That's not terribly uncommon to happen, even at a relative power program (Syracuse's next coach will have zero HC experience as it will almost certainly be Mike Hopkins).

So he did have coaching experience and the rest of us were right. Good, that settles that.

What about the NBA? They hire people with no coaching experience. I know it's only the NBA where everything is fixed, but still they are head coaches...

"We should mention here that Kerr, a color commentator for TNT, has never coached at any level.

We should mention, too, that no one seems altogether concerned about that."

He is a worthless "reporter," as is the "scoop" on Ole Miss, I don't see why you want me or anyone else feeling guilty of some sort of wrongdoing in proclaiming such. Now if we want to discuss his epic trollness, well, he's shown to be an excellent student of the game. This board has been **** all over by someone that didn't even lift a finger and post something here. That's just pure awesome right there. 01-ncaabbs

You can put it in quotations, but he works as columnist for a website and gets paid for it. Sounds like a reporter to me.

As far as his scoop on Ole Miss? Maybe he has info, maybe he is fishing. I've no clue.

I don't want you, or anyone, to feel guilty about anything you think. People I respect hold Martin in fairly low esteem. I have no personal information that says he is bad, but if he is, karma will get him eventually. That sort of thing does exist.

So, in closing, don't feel bad about it, I just don't understand why this is as big a deal to some. It doesn't make a ton of sense to me…

As always, just my perspective, you are entitled to your own. I just wonder if mt.org is best served being a dumping ground for a ton of grief that seems out of place for a fledgling reporter.
