Eh whatever. I'd applaud the move if Charlotte did this.

It's not illegal so if we don't do it ourselves then it's on us. Whatever works. If it's legal.

I don't necessarily have a problem with it either. I did not take a stance on whether it was demonic or angelic.

I mostly wanted to see how others view these type moves...

Thanks for the opinions. I wonder if there are those who take issues with this from an ethical standpoint.

i'm kinda surprised ron huckster wasn't all over this dad.

looks exactly like something he'd love to pull off. he probably was all over it but lost out to the hometown.

to the memphis folks....is pastner getting any heat?

If I was him I would start looking for a job during my youngest son's Sr year...

If his new job all of a sudden started paying twice the amount the last person received ...it might be a problem. Other wise I wish Western could find a ASST coach like this.

i'm with ya gunz. there's been many aau coaches/daddy coaches added to staffs that had nowhere near the legitimacy of this guy....to get one kid. this guy could bring multiple players.

i'd take him too.

Agree with everyone else. At least a couple other schools including Vanderbilt had approached him about a possible coaching position also. Can't blame them for doing this when you consider the guy coaches in Memphis anyway, is in his own right a respectable coach, and does have 3 high profile sons to boot who can then stay home. It's like a gift that fell right into your lap. Might as well open it rather than let someone else do the honor.

I wonder what kinds of students they are though, and whether some schools perhaps passed on an opportunity to do what Memphis did for reservations about their academics. Anyone know anything about their GPAs?

i asked that poorly.

i didn't mean heat over this action. i meant heat over what i'd imagine memphis expectations are. has pastner lived up to booster/fan expectations?

1) Keelon was laid-off by Hamilton High due to budget cuts, so he needs a job.

2) played at UAB (que MB to say he didn't play) and LeMoyne Owen, has a college degree.

3) coached Hamilton High to an UNDEFEATED state title. (39-0)

4) was offered jobs at Vandy and Mississippi.

5) kids have made it clear: where dad goes, we go.

6) Keelon is a steal at 100k

I'm thrilled by this news....KJ has already committed to us, Dedric will announce Sunday.

As a fan I would hope Western would do the same.

As a head coach I would be thinking...dad + 2 maybe 3 kids at the same time.... easy to see a little problem that could turn into a major headache

but still worth it

He only gets heat during the basketball season. They love him during the recruiting season.

And Lawson didn't play at UAB. He had a falling out with Gene Bartow (which I consider a character flaw) and left before the season started.

You always have to try and make it personal...I don't work for ESPN.

As long as they aren't paying him a lot more than the other assistants, more power to them. Which brings up an interesting question, what keeps a booster from rewarded an assistant coach after a good season? Most schools have a booster club for basketball and donations to those clubs raise money for things like coach bonuses.
