I say Contenders

I think for the first time in quite a while Houston has a respectable complete solid football team on both sides of the ball.

I'd say contenders. Return a bunch of starters on both sides and have a QB that while just a sophomore is one of the most established and best in the league.

Pretenders

A strong team + the new stadium = a great time to be a Coog fan.

I'm going to say pretenders until we pull out one of the close games against a good team. I'm very high on this team but I think they need that win to just get over that hump.

Contenders.

I'm still not sold on our offensive coordinator. Everything hinges on that imo.

to me its on okorn, at minimum we'll be a slightly above average team, how much he improves will make decide the fate of the team

but should be our best defense in decades, if our offense is half as good as it has been in recent years we'll be scary good

Contenders, IMO. Too much offensive firepower not to be.

We beat every crap team we played and lost to every good team we played.

So, we're not contenders and we're not pretenders... we're just.... there.

I haven't seen many games last year, but what little I did see I expect them to be in the mix this year. I could see them taking the next step..i.e. maybe a 10-3 season while finishing in the top part of the league.

I know its unlikely, but since UC has no geographical or historic rivals in the AAC, I kinda want Houston to be a rival. Maybe its the old Bengals/Oilers days, I'm not sure why. But historically a good team that is usually fun to watch.

I think everything depends on the Offensive line and how good or bad it is this year. The line must improve.

Houston will slice through its AAC schedule like a hot knife through butter.

More realistic is 5th or 6th.

Our OL is horrible. So are our running backs. So are our special teams. JOK and our WRs are inconsistent. Our OC is an idiot. Our HC doesn't even know what kind of coach he wants to be.

Just too many question marks.

I think they have the pieces in place to contend. I agree with Kronke though. They have some work to do.
