This is a March 7, 2014 article.
. . . and the most thorough preview I've seen. Also includes freshmen and possible starters. When one scrolls down, there is a chart for each position with stats. Very interesting and complete.

"Comically enthusiastic" DOES sound better than "buffoonish". I like it!

He really does a great job of reconciling both of the extreme viewpoints around here lately. Nicely done.

RE: SBNation football preview
Looking at the offensive line, where we couldn't open up holes nor give time to the QB last year, who do you think will start and how will they do in general this year?

Taylor Moton RT 6'5, 291 So. 2 stars (5.2) 12
Greg Peterson RG 10
Jackson Day RG 6'3, 279 So. 2 stars (5.4) 2
Travis Turner LT 0
John Jackson LG 6'2, 319 Jr. 2 stars (5.3) 0

I think four guys are almost shoe ins at some spot. Beavers, Moton, Day and Kristof. Kristof and Beavers especially. There has been some talk of moving Kristof to center, but I think that is a mistake, he has been a guard and is your best lineman, I would leave him be. Beavers has impressed the staff, and so had Josh Bass a bit before his freak injury. Don't know if he can bounce back in time. Hoffing is going to have to earn his spot and fight off Curtis Doyle I think. I see Jordan Van Dort and Novolselsky redshirting. Okorafor will be in the mix, which might move Moton inside.

RE: SBNation football preview
Here's OL depth chart from Athlon CFB magazine (which I assume was provided by WMU):
LT Beavers Elliot Jordan (Fr)
LG Day Bass
C Kristof Mario Rodriguez (Sr)
RG Hoffing Doyle
RT Moton Okorafor

I think between Doyle, Van Dort, and Okorafor, at least 2 of those 3 guys starts.
Kristof and Beavers are the only guaranteed returning starters IMO.
Mario Rodriguez is a tight end.

Mario Rodriguez is a tight end.
Phil Steele seems to think they're moving him to backup center.
Btw, here's Phil Steele's projections for O-line this year (I think he mixed up Hoffing and Kristof though):
Center: Jimmy Kristof, Mario Rodriguez, Jordan Van Dort, (longsnapper) Wyatt Pfeifer
Right Guard: Jon Hoffing, Curtis Doyle, Andrew Aurand, Dustin Pringle
Left Guard: Jackson Day, Josh Bass, John Jackson, Kristof Ifkovits
Right Tackle: Taylor Moton, Chukwuma Okorafor, Zach Novoselsky
Left Tackle: Willie Beavers, Elliot Jordan

Phil Steele and Athlon are wrong. Hokey says so.

RE: SBNation football preview
As I posted - these preview magazines get the depth charts, stats, other info from the schools themselves (Spring Prospectus and then afterward updates).
Apparently you're not as much in the "know" as you'd like to be, Hokey.

RE: SBNation football preview
Phil Steele and Athlon do not have depth charts from WMU already. That's ridiculous. They are just doing their research online and looking at spring game rosters and stats -- the same ones fans and media get at the spring game. I'm sure they saw that Rodriguez played OL during the spring game and ran with it.
Kids are battling for starting spots and coaches are still making final determinations right up until 1-2 weeks before the opener. Fleck and staff probably don't even have a clue what the depth chart is going to look like yet. And they shouldn't, because it's only early July. A lot can change between now and the end of August. Last season, the depth charts were not released until one week before the opener against MSU.
I don't know if he's been converted to OL permanently, all I know is he played TE last year and is listed on the website as a TE. Does anyone else here have info he's moving to OL?

SIDs from all schools send out Prospectus prior to Spring Football and updated ones afterwards.
So - yes, they do.
Hard to believe you're not on mailing list, Mr. In The Know.

Maybe most accurate thing you've ever posted on here.

Yes - Phil Steele and Athlon.
Apparently you're not the Insider you think you are.

RE: SBNation football preview
If it's true that Mario will be playing OL, then you gotta wonder what kinda depth we have at TE. Boyden, Bezerra, and McDaniel? 1 junior and 2 true freshmen? Yikes.

RE: SBNation football preview
Hoople? What on earth are you talking about?
I am not an insider but it is common knowledge that this is not how it works... sure, there is a depth chart (sort of) release for the spring game. But nothing after that until 1-2 weeks before the opener.
If a depth chart is released, why don't we see something on MLive? Or is it just Phil Steele and Athalon that are the "lone" insiders? Seriously...
Does it ever occur to you that they just might do very good research?
