Just curious to see if anyone is planning on making the trip to VT? I spoke to the ticket office and tickets go on sale 7/8 and they are likely going to have a pre game tailgate.

Since moving to NC I don't get to see the boys often so I think I'm going to have to make the trek.

I'm afraid you are probably right.... seeing if anyone else is a glutton for punishment like I am. If I lived near kzoo or an area they played more often I'd probably not make the trip either.

I will be making the trip. Also live in NC so I go when I can. Saw the basketball team at Duke and NC State. They might lose bad, but I don't care.

I am going. The game might get out of hand, but its a great place to watch college football. I have seen a couple games there and had a great time. Fans are loud, student section is into the game (and stay past halftime), and the campus is very nice as well. You can get good seats on stubhub for a decent price right now.

We were planning on it as we have family throughout Virginia, but I'll be slaying the salmon on the Betsie River that weekend instead.

I'm calling it right now. This game is going to be our Iowa game from last year. Turnovers and Special Teams suckiness and the game gets away from us.

I hope we at least score a couple points.

We've played the Hokies 3 times in the past dozen years (once at Waldo). We have yet to score a point.

Purdue tickets on sale 7/8 though? That's my roadtrip this year.

Don't know if we can score against them, but Hokies haven't exactly been an offensive juggernaut lately and doesn't sound like they're expected to be again this Fall (breaking in new QB).

So 70-0 unlikely, hopefully won't be as bad as Iowa last year either.

i remember watching that in 2007, their first home game after the shooting. One of the greatest team intros i've ever seen.

RE: WMU @ VT
This is not meant as a dig at PJ at all. And obviously, VaTech and Wisconsin are playing and supported on a much different level than we are at WMU.

But how much better are things like this than the 4th quarter rowing dance that we are supposed to do? This is the kind of stuff that turns a game into an event.

That said, I always enjoy seeing how different teams do this kind of stuff. I have always thought that UofM touching the M GO BLUE banner was a cool thing. Miami coming through the smoke. And I'm sure there are plenty of others. So, I am going to say something that I never thought would come out of my mouth. Maybe PJ is on the right track trying to put together the way the team assembles in the corral and comes out with their various steaks and oars and whatever else. Maybe the 4th quarter row boat dance isn't such a bad idea in theory.

Seeing stuff like this tells me that maybe the thought process is ok. Just poor execution or maybe we just aren't on a big enough level with enough support to make it even close to the same environment.

^Being Western and Broncos, it is a fitting tradition having the horse out on the field when the team comes out.

We should have row boat being paddled out leading team onto the field.

Like the Oklahoma covered wagon ("Sooner Schooner").

This is one I just don't get.

I love the audio clip of Ufer going crazy when OSU ripped it down.

Its just their thing. Its the tradition. I wouldn't care where it was, it could be at Podunk U, but if it was what sent a jolt of energy through the team and crowd so be it.

Saw an article I think on MLive last week. A UofM fan from maybe Texas has been battling cancer and his Make A Wish was to spend a day with UofM football. In the photo slideshow it showed him leading the team out and jumping to touch that banner. Much of the article talked about that specifically. For him, that was a big deal. Why? Who knows, but that's just the tradition they have there. And if you are a fan it holds significance.

Just like the VaTech video. Jump around and Wisconsin. The Seminole indian riding the horse and planting the spear, along with the Tomahawk Chop at FSU, the smoke at Miami (no not THAT kind of smoke), The Sooner Schooner, Bevo the Bull, The Buffalo at Colorado, I'm sure every school has their own things.

Maybe like I said earlier. Maybe PJ is on to something better than we even realize and the way they come out onto the field. The 3rd down hand gestures (Lord help me), the 4th quarter RTB dance, the DJ, whatever else I am missing. Maybe those will all catch on and be the biggest thing ever in Kalamazoo. First, they gotta start winning. Second, they need to start filling the stands. Third, they need to keep a full student section filled for the entire game. Fourth, the need people to not think some of that stuff is as monumentally hokey as I do.

UM, the banner represents the Alumni Association (yup they have one), and jumping up to touch it is symbolic of the teams connection to alumni support. So if you are an alum, that would be meaningful. To us, not so much, but in that context I get it.

47, you are almost correct. But actually the M Go Blue banner represents the M Club (former letter winners).
