Running backs...who will be the break through guy?
We're fortunate to have an experienced RB back in 5'5" 169 Sr. Chance.
Guido has some experience.
The freshman, if they can adjust to the college game, provide some interesting options in terms of size. Ekwoge..5'11" 205 and Franklin..6' 220.
Freshman speedsters also insert another dimension.
Who will emerge as the key RB aside from Dareyon Chance?
Jamauri Bogan RB 5-8 170 Fr. Union, N.J. (Union)
22 Dareyon Chance RB 5-5 169 5Sr. Lauderhill, Fla. (Cardinal Gibbons)
46 Vernon Coakley RB 5-7 193 Fr. Kalamazoo, Mich. (Kalamazoo Central)
33 Leo Ekwoge RB 5-11 205 Fr. Olney, Md. (Good Counsel)
31 Jarvion Franklin RB 6-0 220 Fr. Tinley Park, Ill. (Tinley Park)
23 Austin Guido RB 5-11 195 So. Naperville, Ill. (Waubonsie Valley)
3 Fabian Johnson RB 5-7 192 So. Miami, Fla. (Northwestern)
41 Travis Mascho RB 5-8 194 Jr. Cement City, Mich. (Vandercook Lake)
28 Jonathan Russell RB 5-11 210 Jr. Midland, Mich. (Siena Heights) (H.M. Dow)
25 Trevor Sweeney RB 5-8 171 So. Mattawan, Mich. (Mattawan)

This kid was tremendous last Saturday morning! Great speed, big butt and upper legs, broke numerous tackles and went distance 3 times.
Franklin also looked good.

I think a 1-2 punch of Dareyon Chance and Jarvion Franklin would be ideal. That's probably what we'll see this year. I know Ekwoge has been good too, but if I were the coach I would redshirt him to give his knee a year to strengthen up in the S&C program.

Bogan, from my hometown of Union, New Jersey. He will be the next star, heard a lot of good things about him from his head coach Lou Grasso. My uncle knows coach Grasso, and raved about him to my uncle. He tried to recruit him, but obviously the caliber of a player Bogan was no way was he going to Maine. We are lucky to have Jamauri as a Bronco!

I've been impressed with all 3 RBs we brought in last year, especially considering this program doesn't have a "power run game" history. They all have the talent to be our #1 guy, but it comes down to who wants it more and who has the game-ready size right off the bat (Franklin leads in this department). This is yet another position battle that I'm anxious to see how it shakes out.

You can just tell by the way Coach Fleck and Hart talk about these 3 that they are straight studs.

RE: Running backs...who will be the break through guy?
I am excited to see if WMU can come out and actually establish a successful running attack this year. It's great that Chance was able to come back and be a senior leader, and its just as exciting to see that we have a great stable of running backs to take us into the next 3-4 years... I don't expect Mike Hart to stick around here for more than a few more years if this squad starts to take off... It's a double edged sword... you want them to have success, and yet once they establish success than they likely lose their position coach...

In watching the video Hiller provided, it was interesting watching the segment where running back had an elastic cord attached to the ball and another player trying to pull the ball from him while holding the end of the cord. Fumbles were a problem last year at times. It seems as they are trying to address that issue.
I also wonder who will emerge from that group as a kick returner? Many times it has been a wide receiver.

Actually our RBs took care of the ball pretty well last year. Ball security was a big thing with Fleck. QB's were not so good in the turnover department.

Man... Jarvion Franklin looks like the real deal in those videos. I'm excited about him.
