For every Aggie kickoff, NMSU Aggie football fans eagerly await the "Wonder Dog" to retrieve the kicking tee from the field during home football games. This fun tradition started in the mid 1990s. More on NMSU Traditions.

i've seen that! never realized that was you guys. pretty cool

The fans really like it. It will be ntresting to see what the dog will do on turf this year.

That is a great tradition. Love dogs. I have wanted us to train a 900 pound bear to do that for years, but for some reason our administration didn't cotton to the idea.

This is why...

Perfect. Killer 900 pound bears. Let's see the visiting teams concentrate on the game.
Would look great on national TV, as long as they are well fed. Can stay with the other
bears at Grandfather Mountain.

RE: Your SBC Team's BEST TRADITION
My favorite tradition went away with the indian mascot. Every homecoming week, our freshman football players would start beating the "war drum" continuously (around the clock) up until kickoff. It was so cool to be able to hear that all over campus.

That is a cool tradition.

Favorite App tradition is the band playing The Bugler's Dream (aka The Olympic Theme) prior to each App kickoff. Have been doing it all but a few years (that band director was shown the door) as long I've been attending App games in 1975.

This is a newer tradition, but I like the firing of the rifle to signal the opening of the gates. The students then run into the stadium to get the best seats at midfield.

RE: Your SBC Team's BEST TRADITION
I rather like that, win or lose, home or away, the team comes to the student section (or visitor's section of away) and sings the Alma Mater with the crowd then walks (jogs?) along the front of the first row and slaps hands/thanks the crowd/fans for coming and the support. It may be something that other schools do but I always love this (gonna miss it) because they are the ones doing all the work and busting their butts for the fans but are the ones showing gratitude towards us/them.

I used to love that they would have fans go down on the field and form lines from the tunnel to the goal line to bring the team back onto the field after half time but when we started the move to FBS they nixed it. Guess they decided it was "childish" but former players have told me they really liked that.

Georgia Southern does this and I hope it never changes. Our players and coaches will also stand with the visiting team if they sing their Alma Mater.

RE: Your SBC Team's BEST TRADITION
1. Yellow buses
2. Eagle Creek - jug of water carried to away games.
3. Alma Mater after the game (I know a lot of schools do this, maybe most)
4. winning (hope this continues)
5. Not football and I don't think it's done anymore, but during halftime at basketball games the students would do the wave in step with the guy pushing the broom across the court. Thought it was cool and a little funny. The guy seemed to get a kick out of the attention.
6. Freedom's flight (similar to Auburn's pregame raptor flight).
7. Eagle walk, football players getting dropped off at the back of the booster lot and walking in. Again similar to a lot of programs, but still a good pregame tradition.

These are in no particular order, just the ones I can think of.
