Quote:As it was pointed out to me, CBSSN only took one Saturday intraconference game (Rice at Louisiana Tech on 11/29) and only three of the seven selections were games between two C-USA schools. Not sure how much they really value the conference, especially with the sublicense package they'll have from the American Athletic Conference which has several former C-USA members.

I agree with Matt. It makes me think ESPN and FOX could be the only bidders for C-USA rights next year.

Sorry, but multiple regional sports airings does not equal a national broadcast. If you can't see a conference game across the conference its not really worth mentioning - it might as well be a local CW affiliate like Charlotte has as an independent FCS member.

NBCSN? They don't really have any football inventory do they? I know they have ND, but I think those games are usually on NBC anyway.

I'd like see us with Fox and NBCSN personally. Fox at least has a lot of regional networks that can be picked up with a sports package from almost anywhere in the country and NBC seems to need football inventory.

NBCSN shows a lot of IAA football seems like.....I would love for CUSA to stick with FOX and than go over to NBCSN...Surely we can over take CAA and Ivy League for football right?

It's still way better to be on a Fox Sports regional channel. With a sports package I can watch all of the regional stations. People can't watch the local CW affiliate in Charlotte unless they're in the viewing area or the local CW affiliate in other cities license it. It's not even close to comparable.

This is CUSA, we're not going to get a good TV package anyway. I'm kinda surprised we have as many games on tv as we do.

Even though it does suck a little to have early kickoffs as a newly CUSA member, I had much rather have Noon TV games than 830 games on a Tuesday night on ESPN...I am sorry but Tues night is not a night to play college football....

If you have DirecTV then being on any Fox regional network is as good as being on a national outlet like FS1. Unless one is too cheap to have the sports package.

C-USA is doing ok with this package. The AAC will have a few more televised games as will the MWC. The AAC will have the best coverage since they are with ESPN even though ESPN sold off some of their games to CBSSN. The MWC main deal is with CBSSN and their second deal is with ESPN. Both of those conferences are doing some better with exposure and money, especially the AAC. But C-USA is just behind them with our roughly 50 games on the tube that you can see from anywhere in the country. Way, way more than the MAC and SBC combined. So we want to do better, that's for certain, but we need to produce on the fields and courts now. I hope UTEP can be part of the solution soon instead of fielding a losing FB team that does the conference no good whatsoever. Same for UAB, USM, FIU.

Absolutely. I'm very happy that FCS is being utilized more now that CSS is gone. I can actually see these games now. More games to be added later including some non-conference road games. We only have 9 games on CBSSN when we had 12 last year. This is not a bad slate except for the fact that not every single one of UTEP's games is scheduled for tv. That's just ridiculous. 02-13-banana

Yep, if any you folks want to double check on whether you can get FCS you can input your zip and provider here. This is the great thing about being a "metro" conference. I think all of us will be able to see this even in Ruston (unless you have Charter). Check the link if you're not sure...

http://fcs.channelfinder.net/start.asp

If you have DirecTV and purchase the $12 per month sports pack, you have FCS and all FSN channels. And unlike Comcast and CSS, they have never blacked out a game that I can remember.

Looked now and its $10 a month if you sign up on Direct TV for sports package now, debating on whether or not go ahead and get sports package now while its $10 vs. waiting later when it probably goes up to $12.....

I've had Time Warner & Direct TV & now with Uverse. I've always had the sports packge & it's always been worth the extra $. I could be wrong but it looks like UTSA did well with its selection of games on tv.

(05-29-2014 03:41 PM)ODU AGGIE Wrote:  The following is a reprint of the television schedule for ODU that was published in an article by Harry Minium of the Virginian-Pilot:

ODU's schedule:
Aug. 30, Hampton University, time and TV TBA
Sept. 6, at North Carolina State, 6 p.m., ESPN 3
Sept 13, Eastern Michigan, time and TV TBA
Sept. 20, at Rice, Fox Sports 1 or Fox regional, time TBA
Sept. 26, Middle Tennessee State, 8 p.m., Fox Sports 1
Oct. 4, Marshall, Fox Sports 1 or Fox Sports regional, time TBA
Oct. 11, at Texas-El Paso, time and TV TBA
Oct. 25, at Western Kentucky, time and TV TBA
Nov 1, at Vanderbilt, time and TV TBA
Nov. 8, Florida International, time and TV TBA
Nov. 22, Louisiana Tech, Fox College Sports, 1 p.m.
Nov. 29, at Florida Atlantic, time and TV TBA

According to Harry's article, four games will be broadcast by some version of Fox Sports.

It is anticipated that two home games will be televised locally (likely Hampton and one more).

Vanderbilt will be televised by the SEC, and NC State will be on ESPN-3.

That’s eight, and it is also anticipated that the Norfolk COX outlet will bid to pick up two additional away games expected to be televised in the home team’s local area (WKU and UTEP). If all of that comes together, Monarch fans in the Norfolk area will be able to view 10 games this year, though one will be on ESPN-3. Hook up the lap top and even that one is on television, so as of now, at least this ODU fan is feeling good about the Monarchs on TV.

I can't wait to see you guys play! Welcome to CUSA

Well if you get it now you are paying $30 for no games. Wait till late Aug and pay $12 and keep it 8 months (covers football & basketball) for $12 then cancel. $110 @ $10 a month $96 at $12 a month

That $14 savings buys you a beer, a hotdog, and a pretzel at the next WKU you get to go to :)

It seems to me that NBC-Sports is an opportunity for CUSA. The only college football they have is Ivy League. It would seem at the very least they would be interested in picking up a second tier package of CUSA games. I would think they would like to have a couple each Saturday. Maybe one at 1pm and another in the evening. It might be more likely that NBC bids for a CUSA package than CBS-Sports.

That is what I am thinking, Looks like CBSSN has shifted why not go to NBCSN? Its basically on the same package as CBSSN and I would hope we could over take time slot IVY and CAA has or at least co exist with those 2 leagues....

NBC Sports is in more homes as well. Also on regular cable opposed to the sports tier like CBSSN. (at least on Suddenlink)

NBCSN has Premier League and MLS in the Saturday football slots right now. I suppose they could shuffle those around. Have they recently re-signed MLS and soccer?

We are well positioned with the timing of our contract coming due. With more content needs and no one else currently in an imminent negotiation stage we may be able to get either more exposure or more money. Both might be hard to pull off.

The only thing that's a uncertainty to me right now is what has this new P5 and G5 designations done or will do to our market value. I worry the P5 garbage is going to hurt us monetarily, but I think we could certainly see an uptick in games telecast.

It's hard to know right now. I hate to guess, but I could see our value staying at $14 million between two networks with more games broadcast.
