OT: Halifax Media Group
How much awareness is there for the Halifax Media Group, which just bought the Worcester T & G.
Quote:Since Halifax first purchased the Daytona Beach News-Journal in 2010 for $20 million and then started gobbling up smaller daily newspapers throughout the southern part of the United States, including 16 former New York Times regional papers for $143 million in 2012, media analysts have watched the fledgling company become the largest newspaper owner in Florida. In total, Halifax currently owns 35 newspapers and their affiliates in Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Louisiana, including websites. Its Massachusetts purchase is its first in the northeast.
...
Stephens Capital Partners, the majority owner of Halifax, is the private equity arm of Stephens Inc. run by Warren Stephens, a conservative Arkansas billionaire who owns Stephens Media, which publishes 11 daily newspapers, including the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and 64 other smaller publications throughout the western and southern part of the country, primarily in Arkansas, Iowa and Texas.

RE: OT: Halifax Media Group
Eh. Most of their papers are very small, the largest being Daytona's, Ocala's, Gainesville's and Sarasota's. The problem with these four is that they are both in media markets of a larger city. Daytona = Orlando, Sarasota = Tampa Bay, while Ocala/Gainesville share a media market, they are smack dab in the middle of Tampa Bay, Orlando, and Jacksonville. Because of this, I really haven't put too much time into them. I do think it is strange for them to go all the way up Massachusetts. We Southerners tend to not like companies that do business with yall Yankee folk! /sarcasm

Haha. How well do we know Stephens? Well...considering that UALR's basketball arena is the Stephens Center....pretty well.

State bonds, municipal bonds, highway bonds, university bonds. They all have to originate somewhere, and in Arkansas they usually originate via Stephens. They are the big financial enterprise in Arkansas.
