The Liberty thread is now locked.

While Liberty fans are always welcome to post here...please understand that from this point forward the only expansion discussion allowed will be mentioning potential targets for the future, and must pertain to expansion only.

Any future discussion on the policies of Liberty university may be moved, and a warning given with or without notice. This goes for Liberty fans and our SBC Fans as well.

Spamming for your school's admission into the SBC remains a warnable offense for posters of FCS teams. Spamming is defined as making multiple posts about the same subject when it has been discussed already.

Thanks.

I'd like to thank the moderators for trying their best to deal with a contentious issue.

While I have no problem with the move, I do question instituting a ban on Liberty as a continuing candidate discussions. Today did nothing to eliminate our candidacy down the road.

When you get an invite we can talk about your glory Liberty……Til then let's talk about SBC schools and how to better the conference. Sorry dreaming up adding this school or that one is not bettering the conference.

I did not ban discussion on Liberty as an expansion target. I banned discussion on the policies of Liberty University.

If you want to mention in a future expansion thread that Liberty made the Big South Playoffs and has committed XYZ amount to improving the basketball program, that's great, because it would impact potential discussion of Liberty.

What I don't want to hear is that the SBC doesn't like religious schools...etc

I'm not sure the two are mutually exclusive. But I recognize & respect the sentiment.

For the record, we have already poured a ton into our basketball program including a 3-court practice facility. We just have not done a good job of using the resources properly. Institutionally we have done all we can do just like we have with every other sport where our success is undisputed. We just need to start winning and we own up to that. But that is all pointless until the next round of expansion discussions.

It wouldn't be because of a hatred of religion, it would most likely be nerves of inviting a private school into a public league...

Not sure that today's decision passes the smell test of being nervous of a private school. But which thread would we have such a conversation? Here or elsewhere?

Good grief, you'd think after a time that banging ones head against a wall would either grow tiresome or render one unconscious.

Shelve the Liberty presentations until such time that the Sun Belt has lost a member or the president of a Sun Belt university west of the Mississippi River has made a statement like "Gee we need to invite Liberty" that is linkable and from a reputable publication run for profit.

A thread on Liberty's board seems most appropriate.

Forgive us for waiting to hear more than a two line statement. I suspect somebody will get some more details from Benson at the minimum today in Mobile.

I wish you could do the same to the Liberty online commercials. I can't turn on the TV or radio here in Greenville, SC without hearing the same old Liberty online commercial.

Thanks chiefsfan, I think you've been fair and impartial through this process. Lots of Liberty posters are reacting in anger and I can understand that cause I have to take a step back myself. :) I expect Liberty to petition the NCAA to allow them to go FBS as an independent. I'm not sure it would be allowed, but I think it would make Liberty look allot more favorable to a conference if they're already FBS. BYU does it, ND does it, military schools are done so why not Liberty? Good luck to all the SB schools in building the conference. God is good.

I've heard Liberty's beat writer really knows his stuff, but I don't think he posts here. I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed if you expect Benson to make a public statement directly about Liberty or more than a two-line statement.

I don't even know if they have a board, but I assume they do. If they have multiple boards, take your pick--I don't care. The point remains that debating Liberty's push to be FBS is best served not on the SBC board.
