For me it's simply an Atlanta, GA reaction. There will be no more FBS schools from GA for a while.

My reasoning is if you want Kennesaw then why not JSU? At least JSU is a couple hours plus from Troy and @ least 4 for USA. KSU is maybe 25min up I-75. We don't want a third SBC either. Let's find a vacant state or at least a school that makes geographic sense.

The state of Georgia is finished expanding on FBS schools, 4 is plenty. Kennesaw State would be like adding Valdosta State 03-lmfao 03-puke

RE: Potential future members
I pretty much agree with the unofficial policy of not putting another FBS school close
to an existing Sun Belt school. Seems to become more of an irritant than any chance
of being a rival. LaTech wouldn't even take a bowl game against ULM who is so close.
GaSt doesn't want Kennesaw State. GaSo wouldn't want Valdosta. Several schools
do not want JSU. In ways it doesn't make sense, but you need to stand by your fellow
conference members. Even if it doesn't seem to be the right thing to do.

Well I am bored so sure I'm your Huckleberry...

You do know they play in an ACTUAL high school stadium. They are secondary tenant to Valdosta High. So how exactly would they become FBS?

They could work with the City of Valdosta to issue a bond for capital improvement. The local chambers of conference would love to see Ga State and Ga Southern alumni and fans spend a day or two in the Title Town. Six SBC games a year would be a boost to the local economy.

The stadium could be built so it could be expanded in stages.

Believe it or not, I know it's hard to believe, some schools have become FBS and play football without even having a stadium.

FBS teams

1) UMass (football only)
2) Army (football only)

FCS moveups that could get enough votes for membership AND have facilities either built or under construction to be considered immediately

1) JMU - If we don't take anyone else, they're still on the table. But they're going to have to ask, very nicely, for us to reconsider.
2) Missouri State - See JMU

FCS moveups that need facility upgrades to be considered for membership

1) EKU

FCS moveups with facilities that appear to be 'blocked' by existing member institutions

1) Liberty
2) Sam Houston (need new stadium)
3) Lamar (need new stadium)
4) Jacksonville State (could use some stadium expansion and probably a new basketball arena)

FCS moveups that might be feasable, if they wanted to jump and there was an urgency for new members

1) NDSU
2) UNI (would need new stadium)

Barring some sort of apocalyptic raid on CUSA (which is unlikely), it is not really likely in the near term that any CUSA member will join the Belt.

Just to set the record straight, Lamar does not need a new stadium. Ours was completely renovated in 2009-2010. The University would need an expansion since seating capacity was dropped from 17,500 to 16,000 to get the stadium in ADA compliance. However, the renovation set the stadium up for a future capacity of 28,000.

The $30,000,000+ renovation included:

1. Athletic Complex - 54,000 sq ft
2. All new chairback seats (wife and I will be filling two of those) and bleacher seats throughout...no seating older than the 2010 season.
3. New stadium lighting
4. Pressbox renovation and expansion. It's not as large as some, but there is room for a kitchenette, a President's suite seating 25, a media center with seating for 32, as well as a tv broadcast booth, two radio booths, two camera decks, two coaches booths, scoreboard booth, and public address booth as well as restrooms.
5. New luxury suites
6. New playing field (Hellas Matrix fieldturf)
7. New Daktronics High resolution LED scoreboard (51' X 26') (Enclosure is 88' X 48') according to Daktronics press release.
8. New concessions (six concession areas)
9. New restrooms (12 restroom facilities)
10. New entries
11. New concourse

Compared to the money already spent on the renovation, an expansion would be minimal expense compared to some of the other stadiums mentioned.

They have half the student population as GA Southern, poorly funded, next to zero interest by the surrounding community and ZERO recognition outside of south Georgia. And they play in the local high school's stadium! Give me a break! They MIGHT move to FCS the day GA Southern is invited to the ACC...very entertaining stuff though 01-wingedeagle

But very few under the current rules have jumped directly from Division 2 to FBS.

Lessee {... runs off, checks ...} zero, in fact.

So its reasonable to limit the list to Division 1 schools.

Georgia State did not have a football team four years ago and look at them now. VSU has a rich football history and has 13,000 students on campus.

ULM's enrollment is about 9,000; USA's is just over 15,000; both schools were FBS before Ga State, Ga Southern and App State. Troy has only about 9,000 on campus. ULL is about 17,000.

So I will give you a break since you don't know what you are talking about. 07-coffee3

Interesting, I give your idea about Valdosta some attention.

(1) How much money would it take VSU to make the JUMP to FBS when it seems they can’t even make the move to FCS?
(2) How do they fund 85 scholarships for football alone?
(3) How do you increase attendance from an avg. of 5,500 to 15,000?
(4) Do they have all the sports needed to make the move to the SB and can they support them and the travel expenses?
5. Where do they get the extra money?

I guess all my questions revolve around the financing a move that jumps from D2 over FCS to FBS.
