Question for Cajun Fans
I've read that you guys have tried to drop the -Lafayette from your name but the state won't allow it -

- if that's true, can the state actually prevent you from marketing yourselves without the -Lafayette? Texas technically has the Austin and Nebraska has the Lincoln. But they don't use it on their collateral or apparel etc.

Has this been tried?

As a fan of a "directional school" (though many point out that Central isn't a direction), I don't get too caught up in the name game - but in your case, it seems like it must be holding you guys back in terms of perception. And without a recognized "University of Louisiana" it doesn't seem necessary.

We can and do brand our athletics as Louisiana.

Please tell me you are new here. Without another thread just open the smack folder and read all you would like.

Sorry - not new but didn't see it on the page. Feel free to delete.

I did notice it used on jerseys and stuff but it looks fairly limited. I know you can't just tell ESPN what to put on the screen (we've tried with no success) but allies like your conference website, and even your own in some cases.

I for one will refer to you as Louisiana/UL!

If you really don't know, it is because It is both UL-Monroe and UL-Lafayette in the same conference. That's the best way I can describe without 05-stirthepot

RE: Question for Cajun Fans
Simple answer, on all official university materials we are required to use the University of Louisiana @ Lafayette. We are permitted to brand ourselves as just Louisiana for athletics. The Sun Belt and other member institutions have not honored our request due to the fact that ULM is in the Belt and they enjoy pissing us off.

We are making headway with many other outlets. This has been an issue that we have been fighting for 30 years so we will keep pursuing it regardless of the feelings of others.

We can market our athletics as UL or Louisiana all day long. The University of Louisiana is a no-no. Low hanging fruit and those that have their own selfish interest at heart will fight it tooth and nail. We will win the battle. Appreciate your usage of UL and Louisiana.

That's very kind of you. You can be assured it will mean the world to them, and who knows, maybe they can add another convert next month!

You know very well that UL is right up there with Univeristy of Louisiana on the no-no list.

It's the abbreviation for University of Louisiana and is covered in the same section in the rules on name usage, so yes.

Louisiana is legal. That hasn't stopped all of you from whining about us using it.

What we are talking about is a University more worried about what UL does than bettering themselves.
If Bruno put half as much effort into making you the best you can be as he does concerning himself with how we present ourselves athletically, you might have more than a 9 mil ath budget

Do we really need to hash this out again? We all know what is legal and what is not or at least most do. UL is definitely on the not legal for those that don't know.
