And if we are in fact fighting Penn State or Georgia for an 88 or 89 grade kid I welcome that day.

You are putting too much into recruiting rankings. T.Y. Hilton was a two-star. Ryan Aplin had no other FBS offers. J.D. McKissic was lightly recruited. Our schools were lucky that the big boys didn't get a closer look at them.

On the other side Terrance Broadway was a 4-star with lots of offers from places like Oregon, Nebraska, Mississippi State. The Cajuns were in direct competition with those schools and won. Yes...we compete directly with the big boys and sometimes we win. We are FBS. Would it have been wise for the Cajuns to invite Nebraska or Oregon coaches to come down and chat and hang out with Broadway? No.

It's is pointless to get into numbers. But, I'm sure there is a backstory to why he pick your school over those schools.

Hate to say it, but seems like Georgia State's coaching staff does not have enough confidence
in either GSU being that good of a draw or their abilities to attract good athletes.

Didn't we flip a QB from North Carolina who originally committed to App State this past recruiting cycle?

Broadway didn't go to my school. I brought him up because we do actually compete with P5 schools and beat them from time to time. Since he is from Baton Rouge staying close to home probably had something to do with his backstory. My point was that inviting Oregon down and giving them a day or two to try to convince him that Oregon is great....would not have been wise for the Cajuns.

My point is that the schools with that large of a budget will go after the kids they want, if they are invited to a camp or not. Franklin and Miles are friends. No public backstory to how this will continue in the future has came out yet. I'm certain Penn State would return the favor if Miles wants it. If a kid has offers from Penn State and GSU, I'm sure he will make his mind up whether Franklin was at the camp or not.

Kids from all over the region (as far as Texas) have been coming to our camps in the past. Now kids from all over the country will be coming now. I'm lost on how people don't see this as a win-win. GSU will get WAY more talent to evaluate.

Smart move by the coaches. We won't be bottom-feeders for too long.

In most SBC States, the number of talented players is limited, meaning we are recruiting against Out of State P5's, and we sure as better beat those schools out for instate players if we want to be successful.

If Georgia State thinks there are enough recruits in Georgia to overcome giving Penn State free access...good for them, but this is not a relationship any other SBC School would attempt to have.

And for the record, a large part of the rosters at ASU and ULL had offers from P5 teams...and teams like South, Texas State, and troy are picking up more of those by the day.

There's not a school in the Sunbelt that would turn down Nick Saban if he wanted to do a joint camp. And his team is in the South. Trent Miles and Franklin has had a previous relationship in the past as assistants. Thus, the idea to connect.

AState recruits against Alabama. Maybe not for the top guys, but for the second tier kids that Bama tries to steal with early scholarship offers and then send off to Juco. We'd be foolish to let them anywhere near our program.

SBC Schools will not survive unless we learn to recruit competitively against P5 schools.

And Penn State gets a free recruiting advantage in the Atlanta area. Its your business if you want to let a major school come in and have a free chat with your potential recruits during a GSU sponsored Camp.

You might have an Atlanta area kid that Penn State would never have noticed previously that now will get a personal look at by James Franklin. SBC Schools rely on those type players to not get noticed.

Recruiting against P-5 schools is about to become even harder than it has been. SBC schools will survive, they'll just survive in the G-5 realm of college sports. Your competition isn't the P-5 conferences, it's the AAC, MWC, MAC, and CUSA.

RE: Penn State Coaching Staff to Co-Host Football Camp with GSU Staff
Wasn't Ga state telling southern and app fans not to put much credit into rating when we got ranked as the top two classes in the belt? Now all of a sudden it is all about the rankings of who they get compared to Penn. There are always kids that get overlooked for whatever reason. Look at Adrian Peterson from southern. Is yardage record in division one will probably never be broken. That is a player who slipped through the cracks. He also had a long NFL career. I'd be willing to bet had a p5 school seen what we saw, they would have gone after him. Same could he said for jerick McKinnon. It isn't always about ratings. Kids slip through the cracks and are out of the line of sight of the p5 schools. AP was a huge part of southern returning to a national power. Can you imagine what could have happened had we let a p5 school come to one of our camps and watch him run?

Seeing how only 3 of 22 (13%) of Louisiana's 2014 signing class had offers from P5 schools, I seriously doubt "probably half" of your roster is composed of guys who picked Louisiana over P5 schools. More than half (13 of the 22) listed only had offers from Louisiana, no one else. I got the info from the site Z listed above. I have seen for myself.

Guys who signed with P5 schools, got kicked out, and came to Louisiana are called BCS castoffs/rejects. Those schools were not out recruited, it was "we have cards we don't want anymore in our hand, at the end of your turn, charity the remainder to the lowest level player(s)." That's the SBC, CUSA, and MAC. Troy gets them all the time, but we don't claim to have beaten the big lights and 92,000 seat stadiums to get them.

At least ASU does. If you guys don't bother recruiting against Alabama that's fine, but we had the audacity to offer a 4 star WR a few weeks ago that already had an Alabama offer....and we're recruiting him hard.

He probably wont come, but he certainly wont if we don't try.

We'll get way more talented kids coming to the camp and we'll give be able to evaluate more kids. Penn State will be able to evaluate kids as well. GSU will be able to show kids the football facilities, introduce them to the coaches, jerseys, etc.

Recruiting against P-5 schools is about to become even harder than it has been. SBC schools will survive, they'll just survive in the G-5 realm of college sports. Your competition isn't the P-5 conferences, it's the AAC, MWC, MAC, and CUSA.

Wont stop us. If you allow yourself to believe that your competition is only the G5, you'll never be better than a G5 school.

Don't get it confused. I still want nothing to do with LU in the SBC but this is pretty cool. On a side note the Bed Intruder Song guy is an App grad(not the ignorant guy in the clip but the guy that made it a song) and close friend of mine. He is the one that does all the autotune the news stuff. From Radford VA of all places.

On the other side Terrance Broadway was a 4-star with lots of offers from places like Oregon, Nebraska, Mississippi State. The Cajuns were in direct competition with those schools and won.

Corey Robinson was a two star QB out of high school. His only offers were a D-1AA school, Troy, and Ole Miss. Ole Miss came in late in the game and missed out. Had they come in to the picture earlier, Robinson may have been a Rebel. Robinson set the National High School Record (any division) with 94 TDs his senior season, almost double the previous record. I believe he played in one of the lower divisions, and this may have been the reason he wasn't heavily recruited.

Terrance Broadway signed with Houston. Not Louisiana. Case Keenum and Houston's second string QB both returned from injury and Broadway decided to transfer for more playing time. It's not really the same when you get a transfer. The game has changed at that point.

It is very very rare, that a SBC school beats a P5 School for a 4-Star Recruit. Occasionally, a SBC program will cross paths with an Alabama, or an Oklahoma that's trying to sign 4th string depth, 3-Star (and sometimes 2-Star) guys that know they won't get playing time. This is a selling point for SBC schools. These guys are not the guys big time schools are actually after. These guys are more commonly signed as roster fillers.

These guys are the guys that the big time schools THINK are roster fillers. But they aren't always ACTUALLY roster fillers.

That is the point....you don't give those big schools (or little schools for that matter) an extra invitation to come to your place and pay more attention to these guys and perhaps discover that...hey...this guy is not just a roster filler after all.
