He makes an honest assessment.

Agree. Liked this comment about the SBC also:
This might come as a surprise to some people, but not to those who follow the Belt closely. The Sunbelt has earned its number 3 rating because of strong football and strong football schools that have been added since realignment. App State and Ga Southern were excellent picks for the Sunbelt. The Sunbelt has more pure football schools in it's conference than the MAC and Conf USA do.

Additionally, liked seeing their ranking of CUSA at #5 of the G5's, and their write up.

5. Where do I begin. This once proud Mid Major has fallen on hard times lately. It's best schools, Tulsa, Houston, UCF and ECU have all been carried away by the fancy talk of Mike Aresco and the
AAC. Only Southern Miss , traditionally( until recently of course) one of the best programs in Conf USA is left. There still are a few solid teams in Conf USA, Marshall being the top of the list right now. But in terms of realignment , Commissioner Britton Banowsky, gambled on large markets instead of teams with a proven record of winning in football. So far this strategy has not paid off for Conf USA. Schools like North Texas, MTSU and LA Tech, as well as ODU, and UNC-Charlotte will have to prove themselves worthy of carrying on the the Conf USA legacy of being a good competitive league. Until that happens, Conf USA is in the midst of one serious identity crisis.

Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Idaho, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, New Mexico State, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy

The Sun Belt can be considered a winner simply because it avoided the WAC's fate and is still breathing, even if it ended up taking on the WAC's two worst programs, Idaho and New Mexico State. There's at least some intrigue here: Louisiana-Lafayette may be a legit top-25 contender in 2014, and Appalachian State begins life as an FBS team with a trip to Ann Arbor in August

That is simply a pre-season 2014 ranking of conferences, not a ranking of how well they faired in realignment. If it was that kingd of a ranking, the ACC would be at the top.

Why would the ACC be at the top? Because Notre Dame will play four games in the AAC? Remember they lost Maryland.

Trading Maryland for Louisville hurt the ACC?

Let's see... the last time an ACC school had a top 10 football team, 2 final 4 basketball teams and a CWS team in the same year would be .... ah... never. Louisville did that without benefit of P5 Conference scheduling or money advantages. So, yes, in terms of realignment winners, it was the ACC and by a huge margin.

That seems like one of the more fair reviews about the future of C-USA that I've read. I think that in the short term, North Texas, Marshall, and UTSA will have the most power in the league. With ODU, MTSU, FAU and WKU building solid programs during that time.

MTSU, Marshall and WKU will be most successful in football this year.
