I think this guy is graduating with a 4.0 from NC St. Big risk and not thread worthy? Give me a break and get back to discussing whether we may add EKU, Liberty, or UMass. Geez.

I never said he was a big risk. It is odd for someone to bounce around 1-A colleges like that. Are players not still forced to sit out a year unless they play 1-AA? Why the transfer to NC St.?

Looks like there was a coaching change at Colorado St. and he was close to the former coach and coming off an injury. Who knows what will happen, but again I think by far our best option and should fill our biggest hole and give us a chance to be good.

Excellent point. Rarely do I remember another teams QB. Those are some big shoes to fill. I will remember Kolton Browning. What is he up to these days? Possible future coach?

Future coach is definitely a possibility but not yet. He's preparing for an NFL camp whether he gets drafted or not. There's a couple of teams very interested in him and want to give him a shot. He's excited just for the opportunity and has been working his butt off the last couple of months. If it doesn't work out then he's good with that and you'll see him on a sideline somewhere coaching the game.

I wish him the best. He doesn't strike me as a pro prospect but then again everyone said Drew Brees was to short for the NFL.

Definitely thread worthy. It is the new trend to fill a big gap at QB in this manner but it is not easy. He seems to have the phsyical attributes at least.

Rivals had him as 16th best QB in 2010. ESPN had him at 91st in 2010. He could be good, but a ranking system alone might not be enough to jump on the bandwagon. Id like to see more of his stats. Nice offseason grab.

For some reason, the super high ranked players haven't seemed to work for Troy lately. We had a guy at corner a year or two ago that was the #2 corner (ESPN, #6 on Rivals) from 2011 I believe. He was second string most of the season. We had Josh Jarboe (#3 WR on ESPN from 2007 or 2008) who did little at Troy but made waves at Arkansas State.

Of course the reason we are so excited is because it gives us hope for this season. We have a veteran team, that should be way better on defense and the skill positions, a little worse on OL, but QB was the kicker than was going to keep us from improving this year and having a chance to make a run at the title. He may not be the answer, but at least there is a chance he is.

Absolutely. There is always a chance. Maybe his previous schools or the system they ran weren't the right fit for him. Best of luck this season.

Jarboe is a curious case. He had a great coach at the JUCO he went too between Troy and ASU, and Freeze became a father figure for him in his year here. I'm not sure it was as much as never living up to his potential at OU or Troy, or simply his inability to stay out of trouble.

Good pickup for ULM. Odd his offer list wasn't better than what it was being a 4-star.

The New York Times article on Jarboe indicated that when he arrived at juco it finally dawned on him that he was in danger of losing all his dreams and he had a coach who demanded accountability but also ran interference with the campus police who were regularly stopping him to see if they could come up with something to charge him with.

He ended up having to meet not just with Freeze but the AD and chancellor before AState agreed to offer a scholarship and it worked out great. Got his degree in psychology and was very active in using his free time to talk in the local schools.

I watched some of his highlights from CSU. Tall and a decent arm. Not very athletic and takes a lot of sacks. He has thrown more picks than TDs in all 3 seasons.

He will need an offense that allows him to mostly dink and dunk quickly with the occasional downfield throw. He reminds me so much of Adam Kennedy and Kennedy could sit in the pocket against the weaker defenses we played but he had to run the ball for us to have any success against better defenses.

sounds like he'll fit perfectly in our dink and dunk offense.

Here's another perspective. Berry kicked the can down the road and at the same time told the other qbs that they aren't good enough.

What's he going to do next year, get another one year rental?

He signed three qbs last and none are on campus yet
. So id say it's to early to judge them yet. It also gives the other three QBS time to develop.

Well the last time he started a freshman it kind of worked out for you.

Personnally I'm no fan of stop gaps. Sooner or late you pay for that philosophy.

No QBs for spring ball? I think those were the ones AstroCajun was referring to.

So how many QBs will you guys have? This transfer, plus the three you have signed that aren't on campus yet, plus whoever is on the team that hasn't graduated yet?

Seven qbs on scholarship in the fall. Three competed during the spring with bayle brown staying atop the depth chart. One of the three is a redshirt freshman with a lot of raw talent but needs more time to develop.

Seems our Sr LB, Mike Orakpo, knows Mr. Thomas and is looking forward to "meeting him on the field" this Fall.
