Sun Belt Football Coaches Ranking by Sporting News...
They think the best coach is Hudspeth, shocked?
Didn't figure you would be.
Scott Satterfield is bottom of the heap.
The steppingstone or the tombstone: rarely, if ever, is anything else as a coach in the Sun Belt.

As expected, Anderson gets no respect because he's never been a head coach.

These rankings tend to favor those who have been head coaches for a number of years that is why Hud, Franchione, and Fritz are 1-3. The first 2 have D1 coaching success. Fritz still has alot to prove at the FBS level.

Isn't that pretty standard? He hasn't proven he is a good head coach. Not saying he won't be, but he hasn't done anything yet. There are lots of great coordinators that have bombed after moving to a head coach position.

Fran's too high IMO. They are basing it off work he did a long time ago. Should be about wha they have done in the last few years.

Thing is, they ranked him ahead of Paul Petrino, but behind Todd Berry and Dennis Franchione. That's what made no sense. Berry, Franchione, and Trent Miles have proven little as a head coach, yet they were ranked ahead of him.

Just seemed rather arbitrary.

In Miles' defense, he has turned around 1 team in his career. But then he walked into a dumpster fire at gstate though.

Texas State had a pretty good transition.

Can understand Scott Satterfield being ranked low, but would not put him at the lowest slot.
His first year was not a rousing success. Plenty of excuses could be made, but the record is the record.
Hoping it's an anomaly.

The former FCS power wanted a smooth transition from legendary coach Jerry Moore. It got a continuation of the decline of Moore’s last two seasons: from six straight double-digit win seasons, to back-to-back 8-win seasons to Satterfield’s first season. A popular former player, Satterfield knows the area (recruiting) and the expectations (winning). The move to FBS won’t make either any easier.

Did y'all see Ga State in 2012. I'm talking about a team that went 1-11 versus FCS competition. And that 1-11 record was masking some epic beatdowns.

Georgia State this year was competitive in 4 games. Including 2 on the road. Against FBS competition. And Georgia State was really starting at less than FBS Year one because of the timing of their moveup. Last year's team had no FBS recruited players. USA had it much easier in that they knew in 2009 that they were going FBS and when that would happen. It makes it much easier to recruit.

If I'm Georgia State, I'm happy with the coach. Probably happier with Miles than App should be with what happened to them last year.

2,3,4 ahead of Troy have never beat Larry Blakeney, have never won the conference, have never been to a bowl, combine to have less players in the NFL, and have never had a better FBS record than Troy. Pure conjecture at this point.

I'm pleased with our guy - Doug Martin.
Not necessarily pleased with where he's ranked, but he's got to earn it.
Ready for kickoff.

True but I think USA, even though we beat you, is better positioned to succeed then we are. But when you compare Texas States transition to UMass, who came up the same year, its night and day.

I just wish we played an intersting offense.

We had a very underrated quarterback last year. Unfortunately, he's gone. But part of it is coaching and Metheny got a lot better between his Junior and Senior years.

Lets see if Jones can work more magic with Bridge.

I'm happy with Jones.

I was at that game last year. Painful, painful, painful. Really beautiful stadium tho'

I'm withholding judgement on Fran until this season is over. The last few years haven't been the prettiest, but as Sly mentioned, it's crazy to think what some FBS transitions have looked like (UMass, WKU)

I do think he's a good coach though.

2 has played Troy once as HC @ TXST. You (and I am sure they are) have to take into account his previous stints @ TCU, 'bama and A&M. It's not all about what he has done at TXST.
This will be his first season with all his recruits. There are only a handful of seniors that redshirted and are not his. Let's see what happens going forward.

We also may have died down the stretch last season but we did become Bowl Eligible in our first full FBS season

I get ya, he's not my favorite either... but you're saying he has proven little as a head coach - which leads me to ask what Anderson has proven as head coach that merits a higher ranking than Franchione?
