Anyways, perhaps I read too much into the word "winnable". I read that as
"likely to win" and not the alternative you suggested in the second post of "winnable" simply meaning better chances than against UGA or Bama. I still don't necessarily agree that Ole Miss will be one of those games in 16' if everyone stays and Freeze continues to recruit at the pace he has been. But I admit I jumped the gun a bit. Carry on.

Yeah, Florida looked horrible the week before our game against top 10 South Carolina in Columbia. Not sure how they were leading the gamecocks most of the game. Must have been pure luck.

Note that we beat them by twice the point spread UGA did.

Also: They had a top 10 Nationally Ranked (the #2 in the SEC) defense!

Yea, poor gators had 10(11) starters out. We had 19 starters out!

9 TEEN!

UF lost a lot of games last year, but they still had some great Athletes on the field.

I don't see NCST being any better. The big question is how we will be compared to when we played UF?

And yet we lost to Furman, App, Woffy, and Samford. The win was one of the most exciting sports moments Ive ever witnessed but let's not fool ourselves, UF was clearly ill prepared for our game.

Week before we beat them they took the Gamecocks to the wire in Columbia. We also had to deal with the SEC officials. Easily the most corrupt set of officials in the game. Glad we no longer have to deal with that albatross as an FBS team.

Last year we had nothing to play for, and Monken strategically red shirted anyone with a hangnail. Florida got us at half strength and flex still cut through them like obsidian

Not sure what you people are arguing about anymore. But ok. I'll bite.

1. Southern did not have 19 starters out. That is the biggest misinformation ever. MAYBE 19 starters from spring practice or something? Or maybe 19 players total? Check the depth chart for the Savannah State game and the UF game.

18 similar starters. Give me a freakin break with your 19 starters out.

2. I completely agree the style of offense played a factor. Because UF didn't give two flips to prepare for it. They were in the midst of their worst season in 30 years, playing for an unpopular coach with a quarterback who at that point could barely throw the ball more than 10 yards down field because of a shoulder injury. There were some motivational issues.

3. The USC/UGA game is an even worse argument. First of all comparing two different games is moronic. But I was at all three games. Trust me. UF didn't play any better against USC than they did Southern. Muschamp had a good game plan and kelvin taylor ripped off two nice runs in the first half. That's it. There was nothing special they did against USC that they didn't do against Southern.

4. Stats are accumulated throughout the season. Sure UF had a top 10 defense. They also had that level of talent on the field at certain points of the season. If you are saying that UF had a top 10 defense on that day on the field than you are the biggest moron ever. UF first 5 games (healthy to somewhat healthy defense) allowed 217 yards per game. Last 7 games they allowed 383 yards per game.

Having said all of that, I swallowed my pride long ago and congratulated Southern for its biggest win in program history. My previous post was to simply point out that was their only win ever against an FBS opponent and should not be used as an argument that they should expect to be able to simply handle lower level SEC opponents. I also already admitted that wasn't what the poster said and that I had overreacted. Anyone else want to try me with some BS?

I think it was 19 (out of ~65) scholarships players out. Not Starters. I think that our fans somehow morphed that over the months.

Scholarship =/= starter.

we've always felt that if gs would've played more non-top 25 teams, we would have a few more fbs wins. we would have beat a lot of big east and acc teams during the late 90's. but we could only get uga to play us.
UF was a great win at the perfect time. they played poorly and poorly coached and gs played the best game of the season. the starters number is miss leading to, both ways, we had a few starters out the whole season.

i'm really hoping to here we got a bcs school to come to statesboro. that will be huge.

Anybody in the Belt, outside of Idaho and NMSU calling out Georgia people for making fun of rednecks...JEEEEZZZZ

It is still a red state but more folks live in the metro Atlanta area now than the entire rest of the state. A big change for the state a decade or so ago.

1. You are correct, we had 19 scholarship players out.
2. Also correct. No doubt they were not up for our game.
3. Comparing games is tricky, but I would say that comparing a Uf game the week before ours if fair. UF was very capable of beating us given their performance vs Carolina (and the level of talent they had top to bottom), they just couldn't get it done.
4. Yeah UF was not the same UF of week 1. Alabama's defense at the end of the season was really bad, but I have a sneaky feeling that if the mighty Panthers of Georgia State hung 26 on Bama at the end of the season that we would get to hear all about it. Matter of fact, if your team hung 26 on any solid P5 school we would all never hear the end of it.

And to top it all off, your team has played an entire FBS schedule and still not managed to win an FBS game. Our FBS games have been against the top dogs, aside from a handful of them, and we fared well in nearly all of them. So please come back to critique our win over UF after you beat an SEC school (I would say an FBS school, but you lucked up when the SBC added Idaho and NMSU).
