If App State did something like that the only football we would ever see is in history books and other teams on TV.

There are football players reading at or below a 4th grade level at App. There's also players in the same boat at Western, UL-L, Troy...

Find that hard to believe.
Couple of years ago the NCAA gave App State a commendation for being in the top ten APR's for football
with eight of the ten being from the Ivy League.

yet there are still kids playing football that fit what I said. Of course I can't prove it as fact but if you are good enough at the game they will get you in school. That goes for most if not every school playing football. I wouldn't be shocked if every school in FBS had at least one kid that can't read at a 2nd grade level....

or at all

Since everyone seems to blame Idaho for anything and everything...
guess we will hear that Idaho brought down the bowl system and games next.

Five total teams with APR casualties + Penn State still ineligible, not enough teams for bowls.
And that is with the good news, Georgia State is eligible this year (also UTSA).

This should be music to App & Georgia Southern's ears.

I know the rules generally go to 5-7 teams next, but with some petitioning, an argument could (and honestly, should) be made that a 7-5 App State or Georgia Southern should get a bowl invite over a 5-7... Hell, I'll even say it: Texas State (for example) team.

It certainly helps, but Penn State is the only real threat to make a bowl of the teams named so far (UNLV and Idaho). Now if the forthcoming bans are of bowl-regulars, then App and Southern are in great shape.

EDIT: To my surprise, UNLV made a bowl last year after multiple 2-win seasons. Assuming they have a decent year in 2014, their ban DOES help.

The NCAA doing something stupid? You don't say!?
Well at least you'll have UNC joining Idaho and UNLV. Oh wait, UNC has value to TV broadcasting deals and advertisers, so therefore they won't be receiving a bowl ban? Okay.

Would agree vehemently.

You have to realize that the time given off to their student athletes at Idaho for potato harvesting plays havoc with their APR. It’s not a funny matter so stop the hate. I love a good Idaho potato with extra butter so their time is well spent to pick up a little extra pocket money.07-coffee3

The NCAA is not some faceless being that spits out rules.

The conferences sent representatives who voted for these rules and the rest of the schools had the chance to say we hate it, let's over-ride these rules.

To blame the NCAA for rules that the NCAA passed years ago and said we will give this several years to tweak and adjust and several years in the future, schools will start missing post-season if they do not perform up to the standard is silly. UConn missed the dance last year but it wasn't our ox getting gored then.

Unfortunately, good APR starts in recruiting, then it goes over to what sort of resources you have to monitor athletes, then you have to stave off transfers because of coaching changes or players being frustrated.

I thought they could transfer they just have to be in good academic standing. This APR stuff is new to me in a sense.

GSU and App St will probably get the same rules TXST and others did in their transition year. If all 6-6 teams get in and there are still spots then they can get in at 6-6.

Thought this was a weird discussion about them inverting the numbers back
in 2010 on Idaho.

Hang in there Vandals.

APR's can almost be death sentences. ULM basketball ball was basically issued the death penalty, but on the flip side, we are starting to build back and have won the academic award in the conference for highest team GPA the past two years and is one of the highest in the country. Also, football was given APR penalties and now is one of the highest in GPA's in the conference as well.
