Correct. Looking at some google research of my own, his claim that JSU averaged more attendance at home than Troy was completely made up.

JSU typically averages from 15-17k in the last 5 years... Troy averages 17-21k in that same frame of time... None of which JSU averaged more than we did.

Keep being wannabes, Jax State.
If an invite was required at the time of your move Troy would be waiting with us. I will give your administration credit for foresight.
Invites were required. The SBC was just much different in the early 00s... They lost NMSU, Utah State and were down to 7 teams I believe. Troy was ready and looking to move. Plus we were ranked #1 in the country at the time in FCS so we looked like a great add.
Back then markets didn't mean as much as they do now.
Talk about "show me" the numbers and "where do you get that".
What was your last season in the FCS? 2000? I'm pretty sure that I know who number 1 was! A year earlier? I can give you those numbers to. Title game the year before that? UMass received a gift wrapped Christmas to the tune of 7 turnovers from non other than the good ole boys from Southern.
IF - Troy was EVER ranked number 1 in the FCS it would have had to be some weekly poll that didn't last long. You guys were ok in the FCS, even beat us once as I recall - but you weren't world beaters in the division. No National Championships and zero Title game appearances.
I love to read when people talk about Troy being one of the dominate programs of the FCS = simply didn't happen. Division 2 I grant you, but not 1-AA.

I'm curious as to how you wound up actually moving up in 2001? But didn't join the SBC until 2004? If you had an invite when you moved that is? Or are my dates wrong?

I get that these guys are taunting you and you need to put them in their place and all, but I feel bad for them - I really do.
That is just cold - my SBC brother!
I think we all know that if they were in TN, or KY or SC or FL - that they would have already been invited. I guess I can relate and feel their pain. Hate to see the salt poured into the wound.

I could be wrong on the year. But we were ranked #1 in either 1999 or 2000 for 1 week. We lost to newly moved up USF and fell a few spots from #1

We didn't stick around in FCS to have a long history of success in it... We moved from D2 to FCS in 1991 then moved again 10 years later 2001 to FBS

I know, but it was a decade. In our first decade we had won 4 National Championships and played in 5. With no D2 success to build off of.
I guess your invite must have came the week before the USF game you mentioned then.
Because 1999 and 2000 # 1 at year's end was Georgia Southern.
Don't get me wrong, Troy was good - I like your program and you have earned a lot of respect. Just want to set the record clear. :)

I never said we were #1 in years end... Just said we got
Ranked #1 which we did.
We have a good amount of success in FCS. Winning the conference 3 times and going to playoffs several times. Only making it to the semis tho. We do have National titles in D2 as well. But that means nothing in FBS as do FCS titles

RE: Jax St. Whups Troy st.
Pretty sure if Ga Southern had the for site to see, they could have moved up when Troy did. But I don't think southern wanted to. Troy on the other hand had every intention on becoming FBS even when they moved from D2 to FCS. But that's just a vision of our current Chancellor Jack Hawkins. Who has brought this university So far.
To say the SBC didn't do a vote when Troy moved in is ridiculous. Was the SBC desperate? Yes. But they still didn't choose JSU even when they were desperate. Sorry it's the truth.

I think the bolded statement was in reference to the various transition to FBS paths available. If I recall, an invitation by an FBS conference was not required until around 2009-2010, around the same time the transition moratorium was lifted. Until then and before the move up moratorium, a university could transition as an independent. Good or bad, that route is no longer available.
Based on the scheduling hardships that a lot of the current SBC members experienced as independents the new restriction might be a good thing. On the other hand, it might be considered a bad thing because a university which is financially capable of moving up cannot without an invitation.
A conference invitation is a totally different discussion.

It's an unfortunate situation for JSU. Troy and USA would most likely lobby against inclusion into the SBC and they may have some roadblocks getting into CUSA as well. I'm not sure UAB alone has enough veto power though. USA seemed to get into the SBC regardless of Troy's affiliation with the league.
EDIT: BRAINFART. South was already in the league, just not for football.

CUSA would take USA before us for an Alabama team. JSU and UAB are in the same tv market.

That's laughable... JSU is an HOUR outside Birmingham! If that's the case do y'all bring The Atlanta market too?

Heck Calhoon county alabama (the county JSU is in) isn't even in the metro area of Birmingham.

I don't set the tv markets. Nothing I can do but accept the market JSU is in.
