GS to host baseball conference tourny...
A.D. at GS said that we won the bid to host the baseball tourny soon, but didn't give a year. My question is for any of you SBC insiders. Does any one know when?

Louisiana Lafayette had it last year.
USA has it this year.
Troy has it next year.

Earliest you could have it is the 2016 season.

2016.

Tourney is hosted at a Southern School essentially every year. Most of the Northern schools don't have the facilities or the money to bid on the tournament. Only way that changes is if a UALR type works out a deal with the area minor league team to host the tourney at the AA park.

Surprising that they know already as this is usually not decided on until the Spring Meetings. Know the ADs are all in meetings know, so maybe went ahead and did it early this year.

Its Karl Benson. Do you honestly think he's going to wait for Spring Meetings?

When Benson visited Ga. Southern a couple of weeks back he said our baseball facility/field was certainly of the quality to host the Sun Belt championship. So boom it gets done.

Yes, that's clearly how it all went down.

Georgia Southern would have to bid for the tournament just like everyone else. They have the facilities to host so if they won the bid then good for them. Let's not pretend that Karl Benson just gave it to Georgia Southern though. That's disingenuous.

I am sure if the story is correct that we bid for it. It does seem coincidental that Benson just visited about 2 weeks ago and now we get the tourney but I am sure he did not just give it to us.

Tournament sites are normally not awarded until the spring meeting about a month from now, but I suppose they could have changed the calendar.

I don't see where he could do that though. He would have some very unhappy members on his hands who have had to bid on the tournaments for years. It would NOT go over well, especially with Louisiana and USA. Other schools who wouldn't like it would likely be ULM, TXST, and UTA. I imagine Troy wouldn't be too fond of it either, but since they host next year it probably wouldn't bother them quite as much.

I bet Georgia Southern bid on it. Benson might have pulled some strings so that Georgia Southern could bid (I don't know) but I bet he didn't flat out award it to them. I would be very surprised (and upset). That isn't a way to run a conference.

I doubt it worked out that way either...but I've thought a lot of things with Benson in charge that have somehow come out very different.

We did bid for it. I have confirmed that. I have no idea how much but apparently we were told that we won the bid.

Sun Belt has a maximum bid for each tournament. Every school that wants to host bids the max amount and the league moves it around the different sites.

Let's really not make this a bigger deal than it really is.

Got you. I think the Belt does well to move the various tournies around. I know the basketball one is supposedly in New Orleans for the foreseeable future but the other ones should be moved around the league.
