FIU signs Home and Home with UMass and Indiana
http://www.fiusports.com/Sports/MensSpor...UMass.aspx

Quote:MIAMI (April 21, 2014) – The FIU football program announced on Monday the addition of a pair of home-and-home series with the Indiana Hoosiers and the UMass Minutemen.

The series with Indiana will take place during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, with the Panthers traveling to Bloomington, Ind., for a Sept. 12 meeting in 2015, while IU will be making a trip to Miami on Sept. 3, 2016.

The Panthers will travel to Amherst, Mass., on Oct. 3, 2015, to face the Minutemen and then host UMass on Sept. 15, 2018.

“Both of these series will be good challenges,” Head Coach Ron Turner said. “I’m very familiar with Indiana from my time at Illinois. It will be exciting for our guys to play a team from a conference with the prestige of the Big Ten. The UMass series will be good exposure for our program in the Northeast. Mark Whipple is a great coach and has had a lot of success on the collegiate and professional levels.”

2015
At Indiana – Sept. 12
At UMass – Oct. 3

2016
Indiana – Sept. 3

2018
UMass – Sept. 15

PG has his faults, (many of them) but that man knows how to get 1 and 1 for FIU.

Good job kitties.

Not all games. They did some minor upgrades to their home stadium.

good to know.

Capacity stayed the same, but they added a new press box to meet ESPN requirements and they're building a field house.

Not finished yet (but getting close I believe). It will look about like this when finished:

No reason for them to expand IMO.

Their support blows and they have access to Gillette if they sign a marquee OOC game and need more room.

They still need to invest in their concession stands and bathrooms. (They only have port-a-johns currently and those upgrades are not included in this renovation). As for Gillette, their lease is up in 2017. Currently, they pay no rent for that lease. That probably won't be the case after 2017.

I think it's great scheduling for FIU too. It's always nice to get a home and home with a P5, and on top of that it's a game they can win.

Excited to have FIU come up to Amherst. This first round of renovations to McGuirk Stadium was much needed. The second round of renovations will be even better. The school has been talking to our big boosters and I predict the plans will be released after this season.

Good luck but you just agreed to a 1.2M one and done. 200K is chump change for IU to pay to get out of return game. Heck they net more than that on games vs Div II teams. tjeu can pay FIU and still make $.

Time will tell but I hope they return to FIU.

Not worried about the return trip to Miami, it's an easy trip for a P5 in more ways than one. It's really not like a trip to an ohio valley or appilachian town; lots of places to stay and lots to do. Still surprised they cancelled a game in Tampa, maybe they will buy out our game in 2016 if we get a lot better. Still a win-win for FIU though.

It's not a great loss if they buy out and don't come. I would bet they do come down as Indiana has in the past recruited Florida, and south Florida in particular, hard. Good way to showcase themselves and bring in recruits. Plus, the chance to come to Miami is a big draw for many players and fans.
