The plot thickens.

It seems as if EKU would forego a "study" to determine if a move to FBS is in its best interest. In fact, it seems EKU's leadership has made that determination. Perhaps EKU has a better chance than I originally thought...

Yes, EKU pretty much did forego the study and just decided it would be better to move up and forward.

Have to read those EKU stories carefully. The EKU president and the SBC Commish have the same last name.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I agree that staying with 11 is fine for now and probably the best option. But my only love for EKU is over Liberty, and only if the conference PTB are hell-bent on going to 12 now.

EKU making the right moves
If offered an invite, ready or not, I think EKU accepts for 2015. I don't know if they will get the invite but the vibe I got from that is they would accept regardless.

Agree. We would use 2015 to transition and improve facilities for the start of the 2016 season.

I'd be happy at 9 or 10 football members but no one has called me for a consultation.

Supposedly the membership has voted to go to 12 ASAP so pick someone decent and get this behind us.

RE: EKU making the right moves
"Now if the CCG Proposal is passed I'd be all for dropping Idaho and NMSU to stay at 10."

Idaho and NMSU were instrumental in getting football to the Sun Belt.

We all know it is a matter of time before Idaho has to do their best to get into the MWC or drop down to FCS and be fully in the Big Sky.

NMSU is in a different situation is that they are in the WAC which is not where they need to be. They can help some of our other sports and they have been competitive in football when they were in the belt before.

I hope they come on as a full member.

As for James Madison...your ship has sailed...two snubs is one too many.

Missouri State may at some point be ready...but that is something that they need to continue to work toward.

There seems to be too many concerns about Liberty joining the belt.

At this point...EKU looks to be the best option.

If that's the case I think Karl Benson throws an invite your way, if EKU gets the votes, to save face after JMU and MSU turned him down. EKU doesn't strike me as particularly controversial, so I can't imagine why it wouldn't. There might be some questions about readyness, but what program is 100% ready to make the leap to FBS?

SB AD's in San Diego. Meeting tomorrow on expansion. Unless something remarkable happens no EKU. UMass football only, MNSU all sports.

Why are the Sun Belt ADs meeting in San Diego?

Do you have any articles proving this or did you hear it somewhere?

RE: EKU making the right moves
Here is why I would doubt they go the UMass/all sport NMSU route:
1. UMass is hardly a travel partner for App. The commish has repeatedly said the 12th FB playing member needs to be a travel partner for App.
2. Last year the vote on whether to bring in NMSU in all sports was turned down. I know WKU is leaving but it is hard to believe 1 vote may make the difference in now wanting to bring them in.
3. The commish has repeatedly talked of a tighter footprint. UMass/NMSU doesn't really do that.
4. It appears conferences will probably by next year (2015) be able to conduct fb championship games with less than 12 teams, so it removes the urgent need to add a 12th fb playing team.

It seems to me the conference would just sit still at 11 rather than go the UMass/NMSU route. I still believe adding Liberty or possibly even EKU this year is more likely than UMass/NMSU.

I guess we will know within the next month.

Somehow I don't believe that.

RE: EKU making the right moves
If I were predicting right now I would rate the following in order of likelihood this year:

1. Invite no one -- stay at 11.
2. Invite Liberty or possibly Eastern Kentucky
3. Invite UMass for FB and NMSU for all sports.

I have no idea if the so called meeting is accurate, but our Athletic Director's last tweet was from Santa Monica, CA.

Though its worth nothing that the presidents make the decisions on realignment...not the AD's. Though the AD's certainly have a say.

Don't the AD's basically do the bidding of the Presidents?

Yes, the AD's are generally the evil minions in this deal.
