I think everyone realizes that the Sun Belt would be doing UMass a serious favor by extending them a lifeline. Since UMass has an attribute that is perceived to be valuable, then the Belt is correct to expect them to return the favor.
That being said, there's a lot about UMass basketball that is a bit overrated. They've been to 1 NCAA basketball tournament since 1999. They've won no tournament games. They are projected to be a good program going forward, but its not like they are Xavier or VCU.
If UMass called up GWU and asked them to schedule a home and home with UTA, I suppose they might try to as a favor. But GW wouldn't be getting anything out of it.

It's much more subtle than that. Say UMass is an SBC FBS member and thigns go well. Maybe some hoops home and homes come out of it for an SBC program or two. Maybe UMass has a prior obligation but puts in a good word to another member; who knows, but the intercollegiate world is all about relationships. I would think that UMass brings relationships which will be new and broadening for the Sun Belt.

I get that. But understand that football is a very dirty word for most A-10 members.

For me, I believe the email is legit, I however do not believe that all FCS is off the table. The prez said and the key word was seems that they are moving on. This could be an attempt to save face because let's face it, EKU could not be ready to move up in SBC timeframe. With this out EKU can deflect blame off of them and onto SBC. Until Liberty is publicly declared off the table like JMU, MoSt, and EKU we are going to hold out hope. When Benson or Falwell Jr. states that something is definitive than we will know.

Boy then that EKU president sure will look dumb saying the Sun Belt passed on EKU because the league is taking an existing FBS when Liberty gets invited. That would be really dumb "save face" move to have it blow it up and make him look like an idiot.

This.

My only question would be.. is this legit. If yes, then its probably valid

EKU making the right moves
UMass and Idaho till 2016 then Missouri state and eastern Kentucky in 2016, at least that's a situation I would really like.

It actually has GWU, GMU VCU, UR, and Davidson on the south side of that line. But most of the A-10 schools have watched chaos swirling because of football concerns.

Bet our new basketball coach Jim Fox is salivating about NMSU being a full SBC member.
And even though UMass wouldn't be in the SBC for basketball, am sure he would like to
have them in for football never the less. Who knows App State might remember how to
speak basketball one of these days.

Just wait until the stipend issue comes up and Dayton, St. Louis, VCU, and UMass want to offer them and the rest of the conference doesn't. It's going to get messy in the A-10.

Am not a huge basketball fan but would have thought the A-10 made good money and wouldn't have that big a problem with it.

GW will pay. St Joe's will too. So will UR.

Actually everyone will pay up, because leaving the A-10 would cost the A-10 have nots as much as not paying the stipend would. If you are St Bonaventure, think about it for a second. Leave the A-10 and go to the Metro Atlantic? What does that do from a revenue perspective.

But back to the thread topic.

If the memo by EKU Benson about communication with SBC Benson is correct, then we can put a lot of realignment talk to bed. The only question I have is....does Army come too?

I think asf' was being tongue-in-cheek here. He has a post-graduate degree in reading between the lines. Looks like UMass may get out of their mess after all.

Bet UMass had already pretty much received confirmation from the Sun Belt before they told the MAC to stuff it.
They don't normally raise any dumb Minutemen.

I can promise you that is not the case. UMass I don't think is quite a done deal just yet.

However UMASS to the SBC is close?

Insert team here to the SBC is close. Pure speculation until we hear. Many many teams have been thrown out here.
