Doesn't surprise me at all. Until we get our lines up to FBS standards we're going to struggle.

Including special teams, App has 38 players on the roster who have ever been in a Division One game. Satterfield talked at great length about it during the spring tour stops.

Is the guy on crack cocaine or has he just forgotten about ODU. A team that had to have the mercy rule applied to them at a 7-6 UNC team can't be ranked about 50 FBS teams.

That doesn't make a lot of sense if he hasn't posted them by now unless he is a homer for them.

You laugh, but some ODU posters were actually convinced the guy forgot about them. One of them tweeted to the Sentinel guy, who confirmed that ODU is in fact in the rankings.

Not sure what his metrics are, but having a beat-up team full of players who had never seen FBS competition until that season get waterboarded by a far better team with something to play for (bowl eligibility) doesn't mean that's going to translate to this season. The Monarchs bring back a lot and they do have that quarterback. Now it's entirely possible that the Orlando dude is overrating them because of said quarterback and the offense, but it's also not reasonable to think they'll take up shop with the UMass and Georgia State types just because of that last game.

Plus when you get right down to it, 80s is still pretty crummy. Now if we get past 70 and ODU still hasn't shown up, then I'll really start shaking my head.

Yea, he's on crack. You don't have a full set of FBS recruited players. You guys played 5 FBS teams last year. Congrats on beating Idaho. You guys got crushed by a 'meh' UNC team and lost hard to ECU and Maryland. Lifetime FBS wins ... 1. You went undefeated against FCS teams, but only played one team that actually had a winning record in FCS. And you nearly lost to a 5 win Citadel team and a 3 win Norfolk State team as well as to Liberty.

Its hard to figure out how a team goes from getting the doors blown off them by 4 FBS programs (3 of which finished with 6 losses) is going to finish above 50 FBS programs. Your schedule is manageable, but it still contains 7 games where you will be a likely underdog (at NC State, at Rice, MTSU, Marshall, at WKU, at Vandy, at FAU). And the road trip to UTEP isn't going to be a gimmie either.

I think y'all should be happy with anything better than 4 wins. You don't have the depth. UTSA did have a winning record in their transitional year, but they played 3 transitional teams, 2 FCS teams, 1 Division 2 team, plus two very troubled FBS programs in NMSU and Idaho. You'll be playing 11 fully transitioned FBS programs, 6 of them on the road.

You guys have done well in FCS. No doubt about it, but unless y'all are the exception of exceptions, I'd start preparing for some disappointment at least in year one.

Like a lot of other sites, I think this guy just put the bottom half of FBS in a bag, shook it up and drew names. His top 25 might be believable, but #89 Tennessee, for example, would be favored over probably any CUSA, MAC or SBC team, and most MWC and AAC teams. That's just reality. Even through their down years they haven't lost to a non-P5 school, and this year they'll likely be better. He must be putting more emphasis on win-loss records.

Except for USA, which he thinks was the worst 6-6 or better team. We ended the year by pasting three teams, two of which were bowl eligible and one of whom was the conference champions.

Did USA improve at the last of the year, or did those teams have injuries or get worse? Or a combination.

USA was the best team in the Sun Belt Conference at the end of the year. We were snake bit at the beginning year. We lost our first game by 2 points at the end of the game. We lost at Tennessee on the last play of the game. We blew the game game at Troy in the last minute. We blew the game at Texas State in the last minute. We lost to Arkansas State by 1 point.

We were ahead in the last minute of 10 of our 12 games. In the other game, we were down 7 at Tennessee on their 4 yard line and the pass to tie it up was broken up as time expired. We were probably one of the best 6-6 teams last year.

We started blowing teams out at the end of the year. Kent State (blowout). ULM...blowout. And then ULL, who we demolished (they had a hurt quarterback) but it was 30-0 at halftime.

We lose our QB (a good one - but not a world beater) but no one else on offense. We do lose 5 starters on defense. We also lost all of our assistant coaches. We have a good recruiting and redshirt class entering as well.

There's no guarantee that we will be better next year, or even as good as we were last year. But it seems like we'll be adding depth and returning 10 starters on offense and 6 on defense...and a team that ended on a high note. The Sentinel guy thinks that USA will be sixth in the conference, behind ULL, Ark State, Texas State, Troy, and ULM, Possible, but unlikely. Especially with ULM losing their 'all that and a bag of chips QB last year.

What did you get all, or most, of your assistant coaches hired away
because they had done such a good job?

We have 4 new assistant coaches this season. We have a new DC (we promoted our Inside Linebackers Coach). Our old DC is now coaching at Georgia. We have a new wide receivers coach. Our old WR coach is the new head coach at FCS North Carolina A&T. We have a new QB coach as our old one is now the OC at UAB (where the new Head Coach was the DC at USA two years ago). In addition our old DC handled secondary, and there will be a new dedicated secondary coach.

All the moves by people leaving last year were moves up. We had the best defense (statistically) in the Sun Belt last year. Although people might differ if 'best' really is best if you lose a lead in the last minute in 3 games.
