Should there be an AAC/ACC Scheduling Agreement?
I saw there was some discussion in other threads about AAC and ACC teams playing each other in football, and we know that the ACC has an agreement to play a certain number of A-10 teams in basketball. That got me to thinking - why not a formal agreement between the 2 leagues to play in BOTH sports? [click here for article on ACCFootballRx discussing this].

What's in it for the ACC?
The AAC is the strongest of the G5 conferences, which could boost SoS for ACC teams hoping to get into the playoffs, etc. In basketball, obviously the best team in the country is in the AAC. Furthermore, many AAC teams are located in fertile recruiting territories for basketball, football, or both.

What's in it for the AAC?
Two things that the AAC needs - a boost for strength of schedule (particularly in basketball, where you'll want more teams into the NCAA's), and better ticket sales and TV ratings than you'd get by playing another G5 conference OOC.

What do you guys think? Does this idea have merit, or does it deserve to die?

Acc is afraid the American will beat up on them which wouldn't look good. Doubt this will ever happen.

I agree - that is a definite concern for the ACC side of this.

It's a great idea for the AAC. I am wondering however, if the ACC would go along with this. ECU has a great relationship with VA Tech, and would like for that relationship to continue to grow.

Just like most ACC schools have little to gain (from their perspective) in playing UCONN in football, UCONN has little to gain (from their perspective) playing most ACC schools in basketball. I would be in favor of certain match-ups, but I doubt it would ever come to fruition.

Great idea Hokie Mark. Look for any post by quo vadis or shere kahn for many reasons it will never happen. They are very up on the AAC being down. 04-cheers

RE: Should there be an AAC/ACC Scheduling Agreement?
If the ACC goes to 9 conference games (I know they had agreed to but then cancelled that when ND came on board but I think they are talking about it again), I doubt they will want to enter a scheduling agreement with anyone other than the SEC, who already has several annual matchups with ACC schools (UGA-GT, FSU-UF, Clem-USC, UL-Kentucky).

RE: Should there be an AAC/ACC Scheduling Agreement?
Unfortunately the acc will never go for this. The aac would win a substantial amount of games which would disrupt the narrative of the acc being power and the aac not. I'd like to happen but it won't. Why do you think conferences will only play the aac in lower tier bowls and not mid/upper level ones.

RE: Should there be an AAC/ACC Scheduling Agreement?
they already have a big 10 agreement and would laugh at us even asking
before last year the best we could have done was an a-10/aac challenge

after such a great year and the Big East not so great, theyve been knocked off their high horse and would probably do a aac/nBE challenge

but i think if we do great again next year (without ul) i think an aac/pac12 or aac/sec challange is potentially possible (likely on a short term contract tho lol)

I voted no, because the ACC already has a "challenge" series vs. the Big Ten. Why on earth would they give that up?

I would like it, but you need to sides to agree on something.

I would prefer an AAC/Pac12 challenge; because there is no overlap of footprints and no hidden agendas from either side.

RE: Should there be an AAC/ACC Scheduling Agreement?
didn't even read the OP, and just went by the title ..my bad

for football??

the acc would have everything to lose and nothing to gain, outside of fsu and clemson (and VT depending on the year), anyone in our league is capable of beating the rest of the ACC on any given year. there could be a year that the acc went like 3-6 in the challenge and the acc would have to explain itself why it's a power conference and the AAC isnt

also don't think it's logistically possible, outside of the bottom half of the ACC, the top already has booked schedules

thoughts

1. this same post on the acc forum has zero yes votes

2. i dont think the problem has much to do with the acc not wanting to play the top aac teams, but the bottom aac teams. in both sports we saw that the aac had 5 strong teams, but 5 hideous teams as well.

03-lmfao The bottom half of the ACC (football & basketball) is pretty hideous itself.

Those bottom teams: Houston, UCF, USF, Temple, (minus Rutgers), will be every bit as competitive as many of the ACC teams in future years.

UCF has been dealing with sanctions.
Houston just signed Kelvin Sampson
USF just hired a new coach, and is just a couple years removed from the NCAA tourney
TEMPLE was never down. There just had a heavy roster drain from the previous year. They'll be in contention this year with an influx of talent.

How you could label that group "hideous" shows how much you know.

For the sake of good football and basketball, yes, I would be very interested in this.

RE: Should there be an AAC/ACC Scheduling Agreement?
I'd be interested, but it will never happen. The ACC is looking into a scheduling agreement with the B12 and has discussed the possibility of an SEC scheduling agreement. The AAC is very unlikely to consider a football scheduling agreement with the AAC. We can probably get a basketball scheduling agreement with the A-10, C7/Big East, or MW.

you guys are dummies

memphis 3-9 (ut martin, arky st, usf)
temple 2-10 (memphis & army)
usf 2-10 (cincy & uconn)
uconn 3-9 (temple, rutgers, memphis)

the bottom of the AAC is much weaker than the ACC and it is not even close.

I will add that all those programs are rebuilds with new coaches. I think they all chose pretty good coaches as well. Taggert and Rhule have really been bringing in excellent talent.

Temple, USF, and Memphis, have very impressive young QBs.
