Exactly,

About half way through this thread I indicated the obvious, that there was a consensus among decision makers at Tulsa that they wanted Haith as their coach. Their decision. From my prospective, as I said previously, Tulsa will fight for a 5-6 place finish in men's BB in the the AAC with Houston with Haith or with Manning had he stayed. I don't see Tulsa moving much either way. But with all the condescension this thread has produced, I hope they never beat us - or Tulsa fans will never let us forget it.

Not that it will change much, but I disagree. Manning had them playing at a really high clip. Haith can't replicate that. Mope City, USA, Haith is the mayor. But we'll all get to see it play out, apparently no one's mind is changing because of this thread.

Ok, but what would that "high clip" get them in the AAC next year with Manning as the coach? Would Tulsa supplant Cincy, UConn, Memphis, SMU? How about Temple & Houston? So where would that have Tulsa in the final analysis?

They made some big leaps this season as compared to last. They were better than Temple and Houston this season, and these were sophomores recruited by Manning. I can safely say that Tulsa under Manning could be better competition than Houston and Temple. I can't say they'd be better than SMU, Cincy, Uconn or us.

With that said thing is you never know. The people saying without a doubt Haith will stumble and fail next year don’t understand the fluid progression of today’s game. After 200+ posts about Tulsa on our own board it should be Memphis that we are focusing on.

I welcome Tulsa to the AAC but get real.

Ollie has only coached for 2 years, and shown promise prior to this year's tourney. Haith has coached for 10+ and has not. I'd never in a million years have guessed that UConn would be our champs this year, but Ollie hasn't proved himself to be a poor coach. I can't say the same thing for Frank.

I'm not sure anyone said Haith will fail next year. Haith will ultimately fail, but it took him at least 3 to fail at Mizzou which has much higher expectations than Tulsa.

Lighten up Francises.

I was making a general comment aimed at prior general comments that big game coaches (in general) are not the way to go.

They were .500 this year, against a fairly weak schedule.

They did make a nice run at the end of the year, against the new C-USA (La Tech, MTSU, Tulane, etc.).

Yeah I agree. They were mediocre this year and only got into the tournament by virtue of winning the CUSA tourney. Manning frankly didn't do great in Tulsa and I doubt Haith will do any worse. He's a mediocre coach as well, but might stick around longer than other Tulsa coaches have done.

They were 21-13 (no where near .500) and were ranked 73rd in Kenpom at the end of the year, higher than Temple (159th) and Houston (125th). The were on an 11 game win streak going into the NCAAs, and they improved from 182nd in the Kenpom rankings early in the season. They were 295th in on the court experience. Manning had them playing extremely well for a C-USA team to close the season, and they were extremely young.

Yep. CUSA was significantly weaker and they struggled until the end before they got taken to the woodshed by UCLA. I suspect Haith will do similar or maybe even a little bit better some years.

You are correct.

I 'meant' to say they were .500 before they went on their season ending streak, against a VERY weak C-USA.

I understand. They were playing well in respect to the C-USA. But he lead a very young team to win the league and they improved tremendously over the season.

Didn't actually realize how low the new CUSA is rated. If not for Tulsa winning the CUSA tournament they wouldn't gotten an NCAA bid and it's doubtful he gets an offer from Wake Forest.
