Joerger Named WC Coach of Month in April
2nd COM award this year......not too bad when you consider DJ's won 2 out of the 6 given for the regular season
The Grizzlies' Dave Joerger was named the Western Conference Coach of the Month for April, the NBA announced Thursday afternoon.
"It's a nice honor," Joerger said. "To get 50 wins and the seventh seed and to come back from where we were makes me really proud. We all respect each other and we get along really well. It's been a great ride."
This is the second coach of the month honor for Joerger. He won the award for games played in January.
I'm sure it burns Tillery up having to report this.

Well earned. After losing 3 times as many 'lost games due to injury by starters' as last season, the job he and his staff did to get to 50 wins and the playoffs is incredible.

some would argue he just didn't have to screw it up, that the core players are responsible for the 40-17 record since December
I'm sorta split - he's an affable guy who is a great interview and student of the game, but it often appears his rotations (or lack there of) come from left field. Me thinks there are many "voices" in his ear.

He has displayed flashes of brilliance this year. We seem to spread the floor more than we did last year. The offense in general doesn't seem to have as many lulls as it did last year either. He was smart enough to figure out that some of the new wrinkles he tried to install in the offense weren't working and scrapped those. There's probably more rationale to his substitutions than Hollins.
Last year Denver won 57 games and got a new coach. This year they won 36 games with that new coach. They did have some major losses, Iguodala, Corey Brewer, Koufus and Gallinari but added Aaron Brooks, Darrell Arthur, JJ Hickson, Randy Foye and Nate Robinson. So there is something to be said for all that the Grizz went through this year to even get them back in the playoffs particularly when San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix, Clippers and OKC all seemed to get better.

That's true... the off-season moves by western teams left us in the dust. The early in-season moves by mgmt were pretty nice.
DJ tried to make this team play his style and we lost a few that we could've/should've won. Then, trying to claw back from that horrendous start, he faced major injuries. so there were TWO problems that he had to overcome.
which he did.
And gave the Grizz the 2nd of their first back-to-back 50-win seasons in franchise history.

For the full body of work he gets an A. I still say the 10-15 start was due to excessive honeymooning by Gasol an Allen.

Joerger loves Josh, understands the love for the Tigers and doesn't blink.
He really gets it when it comes to the sports pulse of Memphis.
Great hire, among other nice moves by our new management team.
