RE: 40(!) Bowls
This is getting out of hand. Bowl games used to mean something.

What's next?

The "Runner-Up" Bowl?
The "Participant Trophy" Bowl?
The "You Tried Your Best" Bowl?
The "As Long As You Had Fun" Bowl?

Pretty soon intramural teams will be getting invited to bowl games.

RE: 40(!) Bowls
I still have my 07 International Bowl program. Don't forget it was when the 7-5 MAC teams started going to Bowls that the too many bowl games chatter began. Nobody was really concerned when 6-5 B1G teams were getting the nod.

RE: 40(!) Bowls
i'd damn near guarantee you'll see a 5-7 team make a bowl in 2015-16.

RE: 40(!) Bowls
I have been a CFB fan since 1962.

Played CFB, coached CFB.

But I don't watch 3/4 of the bowl games because there's too many and most are meaningless, nothing compelling to them.

Many Saturdays in December I'll watch FCS or D-II playoff games instead.

RE: 40(!) Bowls
My bowl season viewing habits are typically as follows:

MAC vs. Anyone = Make a conscious effort to catch at least some or most of these games
Non-BCS vs. BCS = If I have some down time, I'll click it on and watch a little while and root for the non-BCS
Everything else = Don't really care, bits n' pieces. Maybe root against ND or UM if they're on. I hardly ever watch the national championship game.

My feelings exactly. I have 0 interest in watching BC$ conf vs. BC$ conf - especially when they are 6 or 7 win BC$ teams vs. 6 or 7 win BC$ teams. I'll always root for Go5 schools vs. AQ.

RE: 40(!) Bowls
If I'm not doing anything else I'll watch a college football game just because its on. I don't do much work during the holidays so I end up watching a lot of bowl games. I don't know why anyone cares if Navy is playing Middle Tennessee State in some dumb game named after a helicopter company. You can just not watch it. Those teams and their fans are really glad to be there. I wait all year for those 12-14 fall weekends to watch some college football, a few extra games at the end of the year isn't really a problem IMO.

RE: 40(!) Bowls
I am part of the problem when it comes to this. I watch every single football game possible from game one to the bitter end. I watch high school football which I get a ton of with my cable package. Div I-III if they put it on TV. Hell, I watch espn classic games that happened before I was born and even games I was at. I even watch high school highlight tapes on youtube. The only thing I don't care for is the NFL.

RE: 40(!) Bowls
Not sure what I find harder to understand:

Football fans complaining about the amount of football games on TV in December that no one is making them watch

or

ESPN analysts poking fun at the amount of bowl games when almost all new minor bowl are started and owned by ESPN.

RE: 40(!) Bowls
... and ESPN tends to get fairly good ratings on the "lesser" bowls. I assume its because the nation is deep into the latter half of the pro football season and folks just can't wait until Sunday to see the pigskin hurled around. And usually the games are pretty good match ups... Bottom line, if it gets ESPN eyeballs, they'll put it on... But I agree, if it's the MAC vs Anyone Bowl, I'll tend to watch it... but the National Championship has done little to excite me... Maybe the playoff this year will help... maybe...

RE: 40(!) Bowls
The problem isn't the total number of bowls, the problem is the big conferences have 9 bowl spots for 12 teams so a 6-7 Georgia Tech gets to go to a bowl game while an 8-4 MTSU that beat GT by 21pts at GT has to sit at home because their conference only had 2 bowl bids. That's the real problem.

I'll have to admit that this is me, too. However, most of the ones I miss are mediocre BC$ teams playing each other. I thrive on the David vs Goliath games, hoping for another big upset.

I watch all the FCS, DII and DIII play off games that I can find online and on tv. But I have a serious problem and have since I was 5 years old. I watch high school games on tv from all across the country. I don't watch a single NFL game on sundays.
