The timing is everything: UMass NOW! UConn happy?
UConn just won the national championship both men and women. Now threads are all over the place discussing UConn's immediate future. Where there is smoke, there is fire. Usually fans speculation points to common sense around college athletics.

UMass withdraw-ed from precious conference and looking for a home.

American has 11 teams next year, which team is coming for 12?

See the pattern here. UMass to AAC now!!

Adding a team isn't going to keep a specific team around if they want to bolt. Umass would have to come Olympic sports only for now. We would have to wait for an opening to invite their fb team.

There's a difference between message board fodder and real life. We all know that NBE fans are rocking back and forth in the fetal position right now.

Why think of it as a joke? UMass can be everything like UConn. How was UConn athletic 20 years ago before Big East? Really this is not about how good the programs are at right now. It is about a return on investment and future.

SMU wasn't good at all before June Jones and Larry Brown. UCF was not in existence before CUSA. So was many other schools out there. It is about a chance and strategy. Sometimes things would click like that with one move or good news.

Give UMass a look at least!!

Not seeing UMass as an all sports addition at this time. I'd take them as an Olympic addition, but that's a whole other issue that people gripe about. No, I think they should have thought long and hard about rejecting the MAC ultimatum. It might have them living in FBS Indy purgatory for quite some time.

I always thought that U Conn explicitly did not want U Mass in its league.

I just don't want to add anyone. If there comes a time to expand then I'd be fine with considering UMASS.

UMass will get a look....if/when UConn is out the door. That is the only way it is happening.

Why Big East invited UConn twenty or so years ago?

UMass could be everything like UConn.

UMASS never had the commitment from the state, which is very important for a flagship university. Unfortunately that remains the case today.

UMass could be everything like UConn.

Yes, if Massachusetts spent any money on that school and if the students and alums weren't so distracted by the Sox/Patriots/Celts.

UConn is the only game in town in CT. UConn basketball and football are like Connecticut's "pro teams" as there are no actual pro teams with which to compete.

IMHO if UConn leaves that takes UMass completely out of the discussion.

Isn't that the same case for Boise State and Idaho?
