So, a week ago, you guys were bragging about how great the AAC is because one of 2of its teams won national championships in men's &women's basketball. You loved UConn when you could bask in their reflected glory.

But now? When UConn fans explain issues the school is facing and needs help with, the response is, "I don't think we should bother trying."

Yeah, keep bragging on the AAC. What a great conference, keep talking about loyalty and sticking together. I'll listen when you show that you can walk the walk and not just talk the talk. 03-puke

You should strive for more accurate information. Most UCONN fans are hoping UMASS can be successful athletically. We don't wish doom on them like BC does on us.

What can the conference really do to make UConn happy? I doubt inviting UMass will make UConn happy. We all have issues to deal with. I'm glad UConn won a couple of national championships and its great for the conference. But I don't see the need to bend over backwards to make UConn (or any AAC school) happy when we know that UConn (or any AAC school) would be gone in a second if the phone rings.

UMass has a football problem that it needs to deal with first and foremost.

They were not competitive in the MAC.

It isn't the same thing. BC is a P5 member. They are swimming in cash and would still be swimming in cash if UConn were added. UConn being added wouldn't really be a threat to them competitively. BC would still be mediocre in bball while UConn bball would still own the northeast, so that wouldn't change. In football, it would ENHANCE things for BC as the northeast would finally get some hype around college football in a power conference matchup. Both schools would likely improve in football due to the added national visibility of that New England rivalry. It could only help recruiting for both schools.

With UMass in the AAC, it could hurt UConn (and the AAC). UMass will add almost nothing to the value of the TV contract and AAC members (UConn included) will all get less money since there will be one more mouth to feed. In addition, there would not be enough buzz generated by a UConn-UMass football rivalry in the northeast since it would not be a P5 matchup. It wouldn't really move the needle and get anyone outside the northeast to pay attention to UConn football. Most importantly, it also gives UConn one more school in the northeast to compete with for recruits when we are now already at a disadvantage to BC, Cuse, and Rutgers since they are now in a power conference and we no longer are. UConn can't afford to give UMass a free step up in class and then hand them recruits in the process.

Not apples to apples.

SMU wasn't good at all before June Jones and Larry Brown. UCF was not in existence before CUSA. So was many other schools out there. It is about a chance and strategy. Sometimes things would click like that with one move or good news.

Give UMass a look at least!!

20 years ago UConn went to the Sweet Sixteen.

Why didn't the Big East get UMass back in the day then? They offer nothing we don't already have as far as market and their football stinks. It's all about football. No more dead weight

UMass adds no value to the AAC. We cover New England with UConn already. We need Boise and BYU.

Boise is a done deal. Bridge already collapsed. BYU has a big tv deal so something would have to be done by ESPN to keep them in that range of $$$. More likely would be an Army & Air Force combo. Talk about adding tv value!

First of all, it's not all about football - especially when the conversation is about the AAC. It's all about TV money. And AAC doesn't generate much TV money.

If good football is the litmus test, why did the AAC bring in Memphis? Their football stinks too. So does football at Tulane and SMU.

They already have a better program than UMass and UConn had a series with them not too long ago. Army would be a better choice for the New York market but I don't think they would join the AAC.

They have a better football program but not as good a basketball program. They play in a pro town and their ability to create interest in western NY is limited not only by the Bills but by the presence of Syracuse down the road. Those are all negatives.

UMass brings the benefit of easing travel demands on UConn and Temple. Their presence would also re energize old rivalries with both schools, helping to generate increased interest in the conference. UB is so far removed that it does nothing for rivalries. There is no doubt that it helps with travel but not in the way that UMass does.
