I agree.

So your definition of "the best" is:

Ole Miss Black Bears
Tennessee Volunteers
Dallas Cowboys

Did I get that right?

I agree with the "I love playing Ole Miss and Tennessee" part.

As far as this concerns the Dallas Cowboys, yes, they are my favorite team as well as America's Team.

Of course we should play UT and Ole Miss. I can't believe so many think otherwise.

yea, that stuck out

it was obviously a not so thinly veiled shot at the difference in conferences, particularly in football

"bringing big time athletics to the city of Memphis"

That part is funny. As much as it pains me too say this, its good to play these guys in all sports. I actually think playing them will help keep guys at home. It will also help bring money to town and most of all, it will be fun to whip their butts.

I don't have an issue playing Tennessee. I think we should also play Vandy and MTSU. There is no value for the University of Memphis to play OM. The less exposure they have in the city the better it is for our school.

The olemiss series can be great...if we beat them. Louisville used the Kentucky football series as a catalyst to help them grow their football program to a national player.

After 70 years of not playing, the UK-UL series was renewed in 1994. Papa John Stadium opened two years later in 1996. Those two things really helpted catapult the UL football program.

The unfortunate reality is that, in football & baseball, Ole Miss is "big-time athletics". Basketball, not so much.

They could build an exact replica of FEF and they still wouldn't amount to squat in hoops compared to Memphis.

Wrong. Facilities have probably kept them from getting several really good players out of Memphis-much closer to home than UT. I don't understand why you guys cant see this; look at what a $100 million investment did for SMU.

Well you know, and the hall of fame coach with both and NBA and NCAA title rings (the only coach in history win one at both levels) has kind of helps a little too...

I believe Mississippi is the best at being poor.

All the more reason NOT to play OM in either FB or BB for you idiots that complain we should play these teams that our coaches do NOT want to play.

Then it should piss you off every time we play a game in the Liberty Bowl and before that in Crump Stadium. Both were built to attract Ole Miss and UT to play games in Memphis (its a matter of public record). The politicians who made those decisions just needed our university's money to provide a more steady and secure source of revenue in order to get those facilities built & maintained. The short-sighted disappointment is that our university leadership agreed to the process and has continued to divert facilities funding to an off-campus facility that was never intended for our university as a primary tenant focus. In doing so, the state has become accustomed to & comfortable seeing our university and the city of Memphis as one & the same in terms of facilities funding.

There is an upside to playing Ole Miss and Tennessee. Just say we go undefeated in football with Tennessee and Ole Miss on the schedule. The playoff selection committee would have to consider us for a playoff spot. That is the best chance we would have at a NC. Not many cartel 5 teams are knocking down the doors to play AAC teams and the Tennessee and Ole Miss games will most likely be on national tv. Now we have top notch facilities and good coaching to go along with the national exposure. Coach Fuente is recruiting Mississippi heavily. These games benefit the football program. Tennessee and Ole Miss basketball will never be better than us in basketball.

Agreed ---

"The ACC has to consider a nine-game schedule given that the Big 12 and Pac-12 already have one and the SEC is considering it.

The ACC has an informal interest in perhaps partnering with the SEC or Big 12 in an “8 + 1” model....

You guys are way too worried about this. The only thing that is going to threaten Memphis basketball dominance in this area is the Grizzlies.

As for football, there are already as many season ticket holders to Ole Miss football in Shelby Co, TN, as there are for the Memphis Tigers. We aren't gunning for your season ticket base. It's the casual Tennessee and Arkansas fan who might travel to the Hill (pick which one) once or twice a year that we are looking to convert.

"Disaster" is a strong word, particularly when you are talking about basketball or baseball. You play a lot of games in a season, and there is a post-season tournament, so one bad loss does not a "disaster" make. A "disappointment" maybe, but not a "disaster".

Football is another story. When we beat UT in November 1996, we knocked them out of the National Championship game. That was a disaster. When we beat Ole Miss in 2003, it was a disaster, but since it was in Sept, they were able to salvage their season.

I doubt the mannings are big fans of memphis.
