RE: CCG Deregulation looks good
We will see. Remember the conference voted back in March to expand to 12 football playing schools. So I gues they could "unvote" to do that.

I am a strong proponent if we are not going to go to 12 to remove Idaho at the earliest point possible and just stay at 10. If we are not required to have 12 to have a championship game there is really no compelling argument to have Idaho who is so far removed from everyone else in the Sun Belt in football.

To at least be able to walk and chew gum at the same time would help.

Agreed, expansion by subtraction...

I have no real problem with being at ten. Believe main reason to add would
be for a school and team that would add major potential to winning football
games primarily with passionate fans.

ACC is the whiniest of the P5 conferences that is for sure. Idiots couldn't set up divisions right to begin with, now want to cry and get the rules changed.

So we are going to ignore the whine episode from Saban?

I still think we need to go to 12. I like the idea of divisions and the rivalries it brings.

I just want a tight footprint, if that means 10 or 12.

If a 12th team is added (and the conference has voted back in March to do this) it needs to be in the East. If JMU says no and Liberty can't get the votes that probably means we stay at 11 this year.

If we stay at 11 this year a real discussion needs to occur within the conference about whether or not the goal is now 12 or 10 (exiting Idaho at the earliest time possible).

I agree with this, but only if it means the long term plan is removing Idaho and/or NMSU (if they don't come all-sports) and finding 2/3 teams that will overwhelmingly benefit the conference. There's just a lot that could happen.

Don't forget this is all assuming this legislation passes BEFORE the invite deadline, otherwise we may be inviting someone and then finding out later we didn't have to.

The best plan would be to add JMU or Liberty to the East. Add MSU to replace Idaho in 2016.

I can't imagine a single school would vote not to part ways with Idaho.

Ok but I don't even know if NMSU, since they are not a full member, would get a vote.

And to add to that, NMSU for all sports to bring the olympic sports to 12 teams.

Let's stay at 11. UT at Arlington will have football, they are Texans and cannot help themselves.

No, it wouldn't. Divisions or no divisions, we need to stay put until a strong candidate for expansion emerges. To date, we haven't seen anyone currently ready that fits that description.

Reading their past history in football, I don't think it is possible. Competing against North Texas, SMU, TCU and Dallas Cowboys (not to mention Texas/Oklahoma and A&M) they aren't going to be able to pull FBS type of numbers for their games.

Otherwise, I think they would have started it up already.

Edit: Interesting bit of history while reading. Sept 6, 1980 UTA vs North Texas was the first ESPN college football broadcast but it wasn't shown live due to the CFA contract, it was shown tape delayed.
Put that nuggest for any sport triva in your head there.
