Would be third bowl game in Orlando. AAC vs Sun Belt. Could start in 2014 or 2015. Would give the AAC up to 8 bowl tie-ins in some years, not including Access Bowl, Liberty, or Independence.
gut feeling is that orlando is just opening its bank account to the AAC,
all these coincidentally orlando announcements, almost all going against what aresco has been preaching (sellouts at tourneys, bowls vs p5 teams etc.) makes me think, the city and the conference have some deal going on

Or vice-versa. Aresco really likes Orlando from what I understand.
But the game will be at the Citrus Bowl, not UCF's stadium.

We are talking late December / early January. There are 2 destinations for bowl games that really make sense... Tampa and Orlando. Unfortunately Tampa is already booked with a number of bowls to go with Buccaneer football.

i don't doubt he likes Orlando but he literally just a few months ago preached that his biggest factor for choosing the tourney was if it could sellout, 2 months later he picks orlando for the tourney 2 years in a row, where the local team doesn't even come close to selling out.
and if he liked orlando that much he would have made this bowl when he signed the rest of our bowls months ago. not months later after alrady announcing he already he had finalized our bow line up.
also the aac isnt having a press conference to announce this, the city of Orlando is.
my guess is they came to us with a sweet deal we couldn't refuse

Well that's nice another bowl that there's almost no chance I'd ever attend.

Does this bowl explain why the City of Orlando was renovating that football stadium?

That number would be one - the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day. The other bowl in the area is the St. Pete Bowl which is played in a baseball stadium across the bay.

So that makes 5 every year bowls, 2 revolving and possible one of the top 6 bowls (if eligible). Not sure we will have 8 bowl eligible teams each year. That is a pretty tall order. But hopefully we do it.

No. That project was in the works for years before the Cure Bowl was. The City was worried that the stadium was falling apart and wouldn't start to lose the bowls they had. Plus, it was a way that the City could spend tourist tax money.

Nice town...we really couldn't get a Sunbelt Bowl within 1000 miles of the western schools? We now have 6 bowl ties on (or just off) the east coast. I think the eastern division is set for bowls.....enough already.

I thought there was a 2nd game that was very early in the bowl season at that stadium. Either way, they have the Bucs to schedule around during that time frame and they must keep the field in playable condition for the NFL game.
Remember the Citrus Bowl being in awful shape for a 2nd bowl game there a couple years back to the point they were concerned about major injuries due to the bad turf? No way that an NFL team is going to let that happen.

The City is having the presser because it's the Orlando Sports Foundation that is owning the bowl, and the City (via Florida Citrus Sports) that owns the Citrus Bowl where the game will be played. The AAC isn't having the presser because they don't own the bowl (like they do in Miami).
As for why now instead of a few months ago, the bowl wasn't ready to go a few months ago. Now it is. There might be extenuating circumstances that caused the delay, and maybe others that affect another bowl. I've heard rumblings that another bowl game in the area might not be able to go (or go much longer).

The Citrus Bowl switched out the grass for field turf a couple of years ago and will re-install field turf as part of the renovations currently underway. There won't be any more concerns about bad turf from too much play.

I understand that... but several people kind of inquired about why the AAC was so aligned with Orlando and that is a large reason why. Best weather in the conference (with Tampa), field turf, nice renovated stadium, and a tourist destination. Only makes sense.

I agree if we were going to sign up with another trash bowl we should at least have thrown a bone to the western teams.
