RE: OT: NBA Playoffs
As much as everyone is talking aout the future of the Heat, the Spurs' summer will be very interesting too. I could see Duncan, Ginobili, and Popovich all retiring. The toughest one to lose would be Pop. I've always thought he was the best coach in the game. Even if they lose all three, the Spurs can keep winning with a Parker/Leonard core, but they will need a third star to be champions again. Someone would need to replace Duncan on the block, since I don't think the Spurs would want Diaw to become their starting 4. Plus they would need to make a good coaching hire.

RE: OT: NBA Playoffs
Pop already said he wants to continue coaching. I'd also be very surprised if Duncan retired. Why would he? Yes, he's 38 years old, but he's still averaging a consistent 15-16 pts and 10 boards a game. Even if he went down some next year, he'd still average 12-13 pts, 8 boards a game and be a productive player. He just flat out hasn't seen the drop off most players see at his age. Ginobili will be 37 at the start of next year, but he also turned back the clock. Did you see the dunk he had in game 5. I think they stay together to try to make 1 or 2 more runs. The big question in my mind is whether they can bring back key players such as Boris Diaw and Patty Mills...who are in for significant raises in my mind.

Kawhi will never reach his full potential until Duncan and Ginobili retire. There just aren't enough basketballs to go around for Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, and Kawhi to get enough touches to all put up big numbers.

I wasn't. The point was cultural differences. Tim Duncan is a different guy than JR Smith.

With foreigners? Yea I think so.

Look at this roster:

Jeff Ayers - Ontario, CA
Aron Baynes - New Zealand
Marco Belinelli - Italy
Matt Bonner - New Hampshire
Austin Daye - California
Boris Diaw - France
Tim Duncan - Virgin Islands
Manu Ginobli - Argentina
Danny Green - New York
Damion Jones - New Mexico
Cory Joseph - Canada
Kawhi Leonard - California
Patty Mills - Australia
Tony Parker - Belgium (French)
Tiago Splitter - Brazil

Coach Pop - Sebian/Croatian parents. LOL

10/15 players aren't American born. That is staggering. They are coincidentally (or not) the only team with a team first attitude. Their American players like Kawhii are soft spoken team first guys. Pop seems to love Leonard, and if he was not coachable, he wouldn't. Their ball movement was amazing to watch this year. The fact they are the only team with a real half court offense really speaks to the current mantra of American AAU "gotta get mines" hero ball. Easily the highest basketball IQ of any NBA team. I'd be willing to wager they have the highest average player IQ of any team too.

The Spurs' ownership/management clearly has a philosophy that works.

Bingo. The international game values entire team play MUCH more so than the American game.

I usually don't put too much stock in post-game interviews since they are done in the moment, but Duncan sounded like he was done. We will see what he decides after he has time to think about it. It could start a chain reaction. My guess is that Pop comes back, but Duncan retires. Manu retires either this summer or next.

Well he should be. Duncan has been a US citizen since the day he was born. He has the same citizenship as someone born in anywhere in the US. He also played for the US men's national team. I realize the USVI are culturally different, but the fact remains...it's part of the USA.

Legally, yes he is just as American.

I think Duncan and Ginobili finish out their contracts next year.

RE: OT: NBA Playoffs
Heard several people and even news crews in Miami talk about how "even the Spurs have never reached 4 consecutive NBA Finals". If the Heat and Spurs switched conferences, the Spurs would've probably been in 4 or 5 consecutive Finals. Don't get me wrong... Making four straight Finals is quite an accomplishment, but the (L)east has been SO freaking weak the last few years that you could practically put an asterisk next to that stat. There's just not really much of a comparison between reaching the Finals in the East and the gauntlet of teams one has to navigate in representing the West.

I agree. The east was pathetically bad. The Phoenix suns had 48 wins in the west, and missed the playoffs. If they were in the east, they would have been the #3 seed. Miami wasn't even the second best team in the NBA...I'd say both OKC and LAC were better, and possibly others.

Congrats to the Spurs on winning the championship. Clearly the best team in the NBA this season, even from the regular season. Some amazing basketball played on their part, particularly those last 3 games.

Still, very proud of the Miami Heat in what the team has accomplished in these 4 years. As much as some people might want to downplay the 2 championships and 4 consecutive Finals appearances, it's still a great run by a great team. We just went up against the best team this season, and the best team won. Congrats Spurs!

I think far too much is being made of the series layout. 2-3-2 just made no sense. I don't think it really had any effect on actually basketball, though.

Any loss at home in the playoffs is significant. The Heat just gave homecourt back to us. Granted, I don't think homecourt has been, nor will it be, much of a factor in this series.

I would expect Spo to make some adjustments and we'll get a Miami blowout in Game 4. These two teams are both so insanely good when things are really clicking or one of the coaches makes an adjustment that the other isn't prepared for.

One of those LOL later posts.

I just can't believe we did what we did to the Heat. Pure domination of back-to-back champs. This may be the most impressive title ever for the Big Three and Kawhi is no longer a secret. If his handles can improve and he learns to be a little more disciplined driving the ball, he'll be one of the best in the league. He really flashed a very nice midrange game during the Finals and has already proven himself as a spot-up shooter. We don't want to rush him, though. He's still a kid....and he's clearly uncomfortable with the attention. This is still Parker's team.

Last year was so, so, so painful. I'm not glad that it happened but it made this year's title so much sweeter.

RE: OT: NBA Playoffs
I thought Kawhi was a breakout star after last year's finals. He averaged 15 and 11 on efficient shooting and good defense on LeBron. In this year's finals, he averaged 18 and 6 with the similar good defense on LeBron. And that was being the fourth option on offense on this year's team, and arguably the fifth option (behind Neal) on last year's team. I'm very interested to see what happens when he becomes the second option after Parker.
