Women's tourney needs to be in Connecticut every year until someone else proves able to fill their venue.
I'm with HuskyU on this one.

I love florida so orlando is perfect, I also like the amway center and think it will look better on screen for a tournament than a lot of other places.

I can see a ton of Memphis fans there.
I might just be one.

I would have figured it would rotate between Memphis, Uconn, and Cincy.

...and I think that it will eventually. We got bit with a loss in the first round and it lessened our support for the tourney.. It happens and I understand the conference pulling out of Memphis for a few years. It will be back in this city at some point and be rotated among appropriate cities. I'd think that Dallas would be a legitimate host also based on SMU's progress and the city itself.

I doubt if it had anything at all to do with Memphis losing early and the subsequent less than full games.

Conference tourneys seem to be going the way of the dinosaur. I read a month or so ago, how the ACC tourney which used to be a hot ticket played to some less than stellar crowds this year, ditto the SEC tourney which probably had some first round games even less attended than the AAC tourney.

Coaches were complaining as well--it seemed that some considered conference tourneys a waste of time that just gets in the way of the ncaa tourney.

Well, since you brought the subject up........

I hate conference tournaments. Teams play hard all year to determine conference standings and the difference between #1 and #2 is merely a different seeding. It cheapens the conference season. Obviously the ADs/Presidents don't agree with me, so I haven't brought it up in this conference before.

I tend to agree. Conference tournaments are the reason the regular season has become irrelevant in college basketball. Its a meaningless season.

While I recognize the Cinderella stories attached to conference tournaments,
I just remember when good teams in conferences would play 3-5 games a year that had the court and fan intensity of a tournament championship game.

There are serious college basketball fans that haven't experienced what a real conference season feels like because there was always a tournament to bail out a good team that performed poorly during the year. I fully realize that to some basketball seasons without a tournament sound like playing football in leather helmets.....so maybe the emotion charged conference season where every game feel like a live/die situation is a relic of the past.

There are still intense games, but they don't compare to when the season determined the champion.

However, as I said....there is money to be made and so the Presidents and ADs aren't going to do away with the tournaments any time soon.

I'm not on a campaign or anything, someone else brought the subject up and I'm merely voicing one fan's opinion....even if it isn't shared by many.

Seriously, we'd take the RV and head down. Most folks don't know, but if you volunteer for week of events, you can get free or discounted tickets to the game.

It's a smart move by the conference. UConn and the CT community deserve it.

As a Houston fan, I don't want the tournament coming anywhere near our city until we start showing up for home games. The closest draws would come from a bunch of teams that barely show up to home games. Tulsa does alright for its size, but other than them and SMU, there would be alot of empty seats in Toyota Center without a solid Houston program. Hopefully that changes soon and this argument will be moot 04-cheers

See for me I go the other side. I love the regular season but I also really love the conference tournament. If a team is playing well in conference all season and has a decent OOC resume they will be a lock for the NCAA. I love seeing that middle of the pack team knowing their only shot to get in is win the tournament fighting for their life every game and pulling off the upset. St Joes in the A10 this season was a prime example. That along with being a college basketball junkie sitting and watching 4 straight days of games is like being a kid at Christmas. Connecticut is an easy drive for me so I will round up the guys and make that road trip for sure.

I like conference tourneys as well for that reason. You never know what will happen. Went down to Memphis last month and had a ball except for, er, the actual basketball game we lost. lol

Just that there are a lot of grumblings from the other perspective.

the advantage for Orlando, 2 schools real close, transplants, & tourists.
I agree Mass & Buffalo would help with tourney in NE.
with 16 schools [also StLoius, UTEP,VCU]
AAC could run 2 tourn like Patriot did, Memphis & NY with finals on fri night
championship game Sun, avoiding daytime games would help with atten

Interesting concept. Why not make a week of it? Mon - Raleigh, Wed - Orlando, Friday- Memphis, Sunday - Storrs. ECU fans would at least show up for a guarantee to see us play on monday. 03-lmfao If we made it out of Raleigh I'm sure we'd send some down to Orlando...

03-zzz Just a dream of course.. ESPN doesn't want to do all of that traveling and I'm sure the schools don't either.

UConn is the linchpin there... If you have UConn, UMass, Buffalo, Temple, and Navy you ahve a huge Alumni presence in the DC to Boston Corridor but the Quality of UConn (and to a lesser extent Temple) is what makes the north east worth it.

I think Orlando will be the ultimate location. Convenient for everyone to get to, and I am sure most schools have a lot of transplants in Florida.

RE: 2015 AAC Men's BBall Tournament will be in Hartford, CT
I would think (or at least hope) that the marketing department at the AAC HQ is doing it’s research to find out what the profile of the “typical fan” that attended the first AAC tournament in Memphis was.

How many days did they stay in town, how far they traveled, did they fly or drive, how many games did they attend, did they attend games even after their school was eliminated, did they make it a family trip or was it a buddies trip, what else did they do while in town like golfing for example ect? If I was the person doing the research I would contact each AAC schools ticket department and send a questioner survey to every season ticket holder from each school asking the same type questions and what things would prompt them travel to the conference tournament, I would then do the same with the schools booster clubs.

Based on the common answers I think the conference can get a pretty good handle on where the best locations would be. For example if they find that most fans make it a long family weekend then Orlando would be a perfect spot, but if it’s more a buddy trip then maybe a place like Atlantic City or New Orleans would work out better. I’m not speculating on what the answers would be, but at least the conference can make an educated decision as to which cities would draw the largest crowds. The AAC has such a diverse group of member cities I would think they can make a choice based on what most fans are looking for outsides just the games to draw the best crowds.

This has nothing to do with what you said but I calculated the mean center based on the schools..it's in the middle between Atlanta and Chattanooga (with navy). Without Navy just move west about 40 miles.

Just because something is in the middle doesn't mean it is more convenient or if it is on the outside that it is less convenient as a whole.

Orlando will give everyone more to do and cheaper hotels (unless you stay in Disney and if you do that is your own fault).

Also Orlando has two airports, the lesser known Orlando/Sanford airport runs out of Sanford (just north of Orlando) and has direct routes from Tulsa, Cincinnati and other areas that I think are close to most of the teams (Like Shreveport for Dallas)....sorry Houston and Tulane....no dice there. Flights on Allegiant are under $100 each way and although nothing to brag about, they get you there quickly with a direct flight from a smallish airport.

For the basketball only fan you can fly in Friday watch over the weekend, fly home Monday, take the rail way at $7 a day for full service (it will get you to your hotel, Downtown by the Amway center and to the Sanford airport) stay at a hotel in Lake Mary, Maitland or Winter Park for 3 nights + get game tickets for a pretty good rate per person.

What about Dual sites?

Rounds one and two in Orlando and Hartford with rounds 3-Finals alternating between the cities by year..
